Well said, I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment on becoming a better driver. I've always been one to believe that a car is an extension of the driver and not the other way around. Fast cars are a dime a dozen and the only thing separating it from the next fastest car is a price tag. You can't buy good driving technique.

It's easy to get caught up in specs as each year more blisteringly fast, affordable cars come out. With 650 horsepower Mustangs and exotic-crushing GTRs available under $100,000, it's hard not to be enamored with the performance available to enthusiasts today.

The big joke is that you can't use even a fraction of that performance on the street and the limits are so high that they're difficult tools to exploit on the track without being extremely dangerous. Amateur drivers like the majority of us struggle to learn anything in these cars despite passing almost everyone in our run group. Meanwhile, someone in a $3500 Miata is probably twice the driver as a result.

So I was considering buying this for an everyday beater, especially because I have to do a lot of traveling with my job. Only thing that turned me off from that now is that somehow despite being incredibly weak and underpowered, it doesn't get as great MPG as I hoped. I won't use it at all on the autox or closed circuit club track days because it'll humiliate itself, and I'll just go all out on my Evo 8 or just get a Boss, don't know.

If you want to see fanboys, look no further than this forum, which is turning into clubsi, which in the end is not going to turn out to be a good place for info as it'll be buried with nonsense from people who don't know a thing like has happened there and other sites. I'm indifferent. I've been called a Mustang fanboy, a GT-R fanboy, a WRX fanboy, and an Evo fanboy here. Which is it then, as I'm confused? Or am I fanboy just because I mention when people are wrong and point out differences in thought that speaks of the holy 86 as not thy god of "sporty handling cars".

The sad fact about the Evo is that it's ultimately not a driver's car, it's a car built around technology and aids to go faster. The BRZ and cars of its ilk are built around the driver, allowing for momentum drivers to prosper rather than simply using the throttle as a great equalizer.

Ultimately, I am a firm believer that horsepower is a crutch and does little to improve the experience of driving. Steering feel, chassis balance, and tactility really define how a car drives.
I could not have said that any better. and 100% agree with everything written above.

If I ever wanted to start tracking it would be in something like a Miata/BRZ/FRS kind of car. Its funny to me but I would love those kinds of cars for tracking and curvy back roads only but love to own a GC 3.8 for DD. My ideal garage would be a 2012 3.8 Track GC 6spd auto in Nordschliefe Grey and a 2013 BRZ Limited 6spd manual in Silver. I would rather have those two than buy a Cayman S since maintenance would be much better with a Subaru and Hyundai. I ain't a badge enthusiast.

I doubt it'll be offered BIW. If so, it'd be to racers only I'd assume. That's how Honda does it at least.

Would the BRZ qualify for our B Spec. racing class? I wonder.

^^ this. Not sure where you guys are from but where I am, miatas dominate the autox scene and run the fastest times on the courses. I currently drive a 09 WRX and can't keep up. I'll admit that I'm probably not the best driver that ever lived but the WRX doesn't teach you anything or show you how to grow. You can't feel the road from the steering wheel and you literally just point and floor it. AWD kicks in and grips for you. I don't see the skill in that. Personally, I get a bigger thrill driving a slow car fast than just a fast car.

In summary, here's a quote that pretty much sums up my sentiments on the HP issue: "Anyone can drive a fast car, few can drive a car fast."

Can't wait for my BR-ZED to be mine.

Upgrade the stereo, possibly (from what little I've heard) add a cool air intake and upgrade the exhaust, then I'll sit on about 225 HP. For as light as it is, that's plenty for me. I don't need an STI version. Or the wait for one.

What have you heard that's bad about the stereo? Are you sure you're not thinking of the FR-S? The FR-S and BRZ come with different units.

Nothing. But there is always better! I know what good treble, mid range and bass sound like. Many put up with less articulate sound. I'm a bit more picky.

Shame I will not be driving it till cooler weather hits. So much for summer fun.

Anyone thought of the first song they want to pump threw their BRZ? For it is Gotye's Someone That I Used To Know or rock it older with RunDMC's Its Tricky or even Yellow's Oh Yeah! Then you drive slow threw the happening streets.
