Okay, I'm tired as hell since I'm just taking a short break from work, but just trying to say it's a lot of money.

I find myself less willing to spend money when I see it in actual bills than numbers on a screen or paper. I don't know, I thought some people might see it that way also.

If I had that much money, and someone told me "hey, for that much money you have in your hands, you can get this fancy interior!"... I'd rather not.
But if you did, more power to you.
But imo, the point of stripping it is to avoid price-bracket competition.
People wanting those luxury amenities, at the same time, wanting an economy-car bracket pricing, is just unrealistic.
You can go ahead and say Hyundai or whatever company is offering that.
Then be my guest: go get a Hyundai and stop whining here.

Oh, and much as I have hated the fact that the car would be a Scion from the beginning, I think the package that they present here is a pretty damned good idea. Just hope the price is commensurate with the features.... make it 20-22k MSRP next to subaru's 24-25k and this Toyubaru will be pretty much win all round. Just make sure LSD is available, preferably standard.

Because RACECARRRRR!!!!!!!

I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that, we have absolutely no clue what options/accessories the car is going to be available with at the time of sale.

You may very well be able to turn your FR-S into a high spec model by picking and choosing all the stuff you want to add on to it. I mean, they all come from the same factory right?

I would definitely pay BRZ price to have my FR-S optioned the same, I just prefer the front end much more.

Basically my list of wants would be

- HID
- Fogs
- Heated seats
- Upgraded seats
- LSD

I like the look of the HVAC from the 86/BRZ and the push start too, but if it's not available, it's not the end of the world.

I personally think that the scion will be the "low-spec" model, with the Subaru being the "high-spec". And most things in between should be available as options.

Also, is the push start button really an option on the TC? I thought it was only available on that orange special edition(don't remember what it's called)

That all depends on the salesperson... I work retail, actually appliance sales... When you are in a mindset to spend 25K, you do NOT think in the hundreds... You think in the grand scheme of the 5 figures...

Value is what the sale is all about... We can all make due with a full plastic interior, but wouldn't it be nice since you're going to live with this item for 10+ years you spend numerous hours on the road that you're sitting in something that makes you comfortable? Or would you rather that money be in the bank while you HATE your 25K investment daily because it looks horrible to you?

There are a few reasons why people buy / not buy something... 1) Is because they can't afford it... 2) Is because they can't find the value in the thing they're looking at vs the asking price... 3) People will go OUT of their price range to really have what they want so long as they think it's worth what it is for what they get...

As a business, you want to give the consumer the choice, but better yet make it possible for your sales people to step people up from the basic to premium to rake in that extra cash...

However, Toyota already said they aren't making huge profits on this car, so this is really catering to a different crowd... I really think they're trying to give back to the automotive industry that has been suffering from affordable sports cars that are FUN to drive... They actually hit a LOT of right chords with many different crowds on this one...

I'm not usually one to buy into all the glitter, but since Toyota made the gesture to come out with a car I only dreamed of and concept-ed in my head, I can only repay them by giving them my money....

P.S. Each time you see Toyota, I mean to say Subaru as well... I just don't want to type is so much lol... I've owned cars from both brands, love both brands...

I agree. That's the reason I decided to go for an EX-L Civic ($22k) instead of your typical LX ($18k).
I thought, I'm gonna be in this thing for a long time (commuter car in and out of college), and it is practically my second home--I better make it worth it.

But in the grand scheme over at Toyota's side, if they made the amenities STOCK, i.e. not giving the consumer the choice (as a lot of people here are crying over for the FR-S being stripped), then it's a loss for both the consumer market (less choice) and Toyota (price bracket change/competition).

As for Subaru, I think it's okay for them to pull that off because they aren't looked at for cheap, affordable, reliable commuter cars.
People who even give Subaru a look in the first place are, like you said, already set in spending a certain amount of money.

People gotta understand that things come at a price. There are always tradeoffs, and I think Toyota decided it best for the USDM market to strip the FR-S because the competition over here is more fierce and giving the consumer options (by stripping the car and starting low at $20k) as opposed to making them pay for a 200hp 2dr JDM-standard car equivalently priced as a base WRX is suicide.

That is, assuming this FR-S will match its price.
That's the only thing up in the air...
If not, then all hell will break loose, lol.

Well, stripping the FR-S is doing exactly what you're saying... Scion is all about choice... I'm sorta happy after all said and done because you KNOW being a Scion is probably going to be the best way to get the car for the cheapest they can possibly make it...

Scion will never disappoint to the person that want to splurge a little because their base model cars are NOT all that appealing... I don't think many Scions sell at base trim...

It'll be interesting when they decide to unleash the pricing info because the rest of the world will WISH they had Scion as a brand when they see we make out like bandits on the price...

Yeah I honestly felt the same way too when I heard the news way back then that this would be branded as a Scion. With Scion's pricing scheme, I thought buying this car would be much less of a hassle, and really affordable at the same time. Can't complain about that.

A lot of people got pissed because Scions have not-so-good rep, owner-base and marketing wise. But all in all, who cares what people think about what you drive? Basing your car-buying decision (a $20k+ investment) on an emblem and/or for "street cred" is really, really dumb imo. Buy what makes you happy, not what makes other people happy.

I decided that the moment I decided I wanted a HONDA as a first car, lol... We all know what kind of rep they have among the tuner/enthusiast crowd. Tons of bad apples. But in the end, I don't care.

I'll admit though, I get hounded quite often; from Mustangs to Porsches, lol.
Already used to it and idgaf.

So, it has been cofirmed that LSD doesn't come standard for the Scion?

The dealership I'm buying my FR-S from (which is where I bought my tC) told me what is standard on the FR-S

LSD- yep!
6MT or optional 6AT
Black interior- that's all his sheet said (no mention of stitch color)
Manual a/c- no dz cc

There was no mention of optional equipment at this point in time, no mention of gauge colors, no mention of price

I'm satisfied with what we have been given from Scion and this hasn't affected my buying decision since there will be a whorish amount of aftermarket parts available within 6 months of this cars' release

Great question, this is probably going to end up being a TRD option for $1000.

The LSD is the cheap type anyways, so if you are a true drifter you will switch it out anyways... Wasn't it clutch type not torsen?
