When was that part officially available at dealers? I just had mine replaced on the 26th last month, flogged the car at the track this past weekend, chirps haven't come back yet.
IMO, the kind of fuel (ethanol or ethanol free) didn't make any difference for me. It still chirped then it got worse to the point it chirps while I'm driving through residential areas in 5th or 6th gear. |

But it's the most recent part number I mean. The latest iteration of fuel pump.
My pump chirps just not nearly as bad or loud as the original pump. It's still worth making the dealer replace your pump for whoever still has the original pump. Problems with High Pressure Fuel Pumps are not foreign to major car manufacturers. Just google HPFP issues for BMW n54 and n55 engines. They had a real mess with the introduction of their first turbo I-6 engines in the 2006-2009 era. Except BMW's problem was worse. The fuel pumps failed to the point of causing total malfunction and break-downs. |

I voted yes on the day that I first heard crickets, but that was also the last day. I had filled my brz with gas from a sketchy Chevron and i had it. Here in cali we don't ge 93 octane. So I usually head to a Shell station and fill up with 8 gallons of 91, 4 gallons of 100 octane. I have 16,000 miles and only had cricket for 5 minutes one time.
Could it be the quality of gas? |

I always fill up with 93 octane and from time to time get the chirps. More reason for me to change the axle back for me x_x

Do people really have this intermittently? I'm at 10k miles, bone stock, fill up with Shell 93 every time, and my car has crickets 100% of the time under the following conditions:
-Car is fully warmed up -Car is idling -Music off, windows down (although can be heard with windows up if you listen carefully) I, like many, thought the issue was intermittent until I stopped listening to music during city driving and kept my windows down. I almost wonder if people think it's intermittent because they only hear it between songs, which is a statistically small percentage of the time you spend idling. Not that it matters, I've grown rather fond of my fuel pump's mating call.

In a sense, but ironically the "higher quality" gas is more likely to cause the crickets. I'm convinced it's the additive packages (the detergents and such) that the top tier gas distributors add to their fuel. If I stop at a top tier gas station (Shell, Chevron, BP etc.) I will almost always have crickets. Top tier gas is required to have ethanol as well, but I don't think that's what's causing it, because...
If I stop at a Marathon station, I can fill up with 10% ethanol and have no crickets. Marathon seems to be leaving out whatever is causing the crickets in the top tier gas. Unfortunately there are no Marathon stations anywhere near my home, and I can only get it when I'm visiting relatives two states over. But a little closer to home... I found an unbranded station with ethanol-free 93 octane some 40 minutes from my house. I filled up there and still heard crickets. So between the Marathon station giving me a cricket-free ride WITH ethanol and the other station giving me a cricket symphony WITHOUT it, it seems impossible that the ethanol could have anything whatsoever to do with it. But then... I realized a Sunoco branded station right near my house has 92 octane ethanol-free gas, and that stuff gets rid of the crickets instantaneously. I had the crickets when I pulled into that station the first time. When I cranked the car after filling up, I heard a couple of chirps, then nothing when the new gas hit the pump. It stayed silent until I went on my next road trip and had to fill up at a regular top tier exit-ramp station. So all I can figure is that whatever detergent or drying agent that causes the crickets is present in the top tier gas and the ethanol free gas 40 minutes from my house, but not present in the Marathon 10% ethanol and the ethanol-free station just around the corner. I think when people lose their crickets when they switch to E85, it's because the E85 doesn't have whatever the additive is that's causing the chirps. I wish we could figure out exactly WTF is being put in the gas to cause it, because knowing that might help point to a permanent solution. |

I had mine replaced and I was told it is a known issue with the FR-S. I was also told that there is a recall on the fuel pump. I already had mine replaced. I was also told that the new fuel pump is not a guarantee cure that will eliminate the chirping noise for good. This info came from Toyota dealership.
