Originally thought Prepared, but upon rule review it appears to be SM. "Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations: 1. Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model. 2. Maximum engine displacements per class are specified in Appendix A." Last edited by UncleFester; 08-24-2013 at 11:16 PM. |

That'll kill your speed in 2nd--you'll need an extra shift on most courses. My .02...

Either you guys are crazy good or have much larger courses than I've raced.....
Can barely use 2nd gear much less think about third.

Edit: Looked up EIRSCCA events and see they are all in Highschool parking lots. Yeah, those usually will make for slow events. I'd scout around for large areas for them to use and bring it up to your area's leader. Video of Bonneville HS are some really... boring and slow courses. Check the thread in my signature for videos of the events we run in Central Florida

Yeah we ran the college lot once last summer and a few years ago had the local airport but seems people are pretty gay.

I'm fortunate out here in Cali. Have my local venue of Qualcomm where 2nd is the norm and when we are in the NW lot _some_ courses will allow for 3rd. El Toro up north is also a large site with military grade concrete runways where the grip is _insane_ and given the right course 3rd may also be an option.

Yeah what kind of places outside of airports and tracks can you use?
As far as I know we don't have anything big enough to be using 3rd gear unless you guys loop around buildings at a mall....

Some large stadium lots also. I got up to 57 yesterday here at Turner Field, that's the highest this year, in a RTR/Stock car. Our lot is not that large and oddly shaped, at Miller Park where Bill runs is a nice square lot most courses are open enough you will be right on the limiter or into third.
Our other main site is atlanta motor speedway, the NASCAR track. The parking lot is plenty large enough to build a 3rd gear course, but its odd because its two lots with slightly different surfaces/age. Supposedly we are returning to a large fairground lot they used to run at. As big and spread out as atlanta is we have few choices, only 8 events on the schedule this year... I am surprised there isn't another autox group here, Milwaukee and Chicago both had two main groups. Last edited by xwd; 08-25-2013 at 08:12 PM. |

We don't have TOO many events where we use third gear, just a race track and airport. The parking lot, skidpad and others are just 2nd limiter events

Population for pocatella and Idaho falls ( largest area until you hit Boise or SLC) is barley over 100k The mall lot would be decent if it was flat and didn't have light poles everywhere. The airport would be nice but the three people who fly into and out per week complained.

Course design really matters. I found third at 86fest this year. my best time was a 20.642. It was a short narrow lot.

You are never close to needing to go into third gear though. On some of the particularly fast days you might get near the rev limiter in second, but never to the point where shifting would be worth it. I am pretty sure at SCCA nationals no one is using third and that is kinda the standard to compare to. We do have a few events up north at the Cumberland airport (I have yet to attend but have talked to people who have) and they will get into third gear. Pretty sure you need an airport to really see those kind of speeds safely.
