Both Cantonese and Mandarin. Unfortunately, I know little to none Cantonese so I can't teach you.
BTW, just go to some Chinese restaurants, more greasy the better, and see if you can pick up something from there. Hmmm... never been to Shenzhen so I donno. Party and Rich scene, huh, I would think Shanghai is more like that now.

People usually think of "Mandarin" and "Cantonese", and then there's people who will tell you there are "many dialects, a different one for every city/village"!
What it actually is is like this, you can group the dialects into "families" that are similar, but extremely difficult to impossible to mutually comprehend (by that I mean it's not possible to understand one of the other "families" of dialects), and then within the families you can understand but it can take a little bit of thinking. The differences across these "families" is much more fundamental, it's not like "southern" English being hard to understand (although when I watched Deliverance, that cop at the end was completely uncomprehendable ).The "standard" dialect that everyone understands is "Mandarin". In this day and age EVERY single person in China should understand this and speak it (albeit with an accent). Much of southwestern and northeastern China speaks a variation on that, but there's many flavors to it. "Cantonese" is what is spoken in the southeast near the Pacific, and to my ear Fujian dialects (which is very close to what's spoken in Taiwan), and the provinces nearby all are much closer to "Cantonese" than anything else, but I could be wrong. My guess is that because all the "southern" dialects are given different names that they might be quite different, but they all have a similar "ring" to it, if you know what I mean. Then the last one that is "significant" is the dialect spoken in Shanghai and surrounding areas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ma...sh_version.svg Last edited by serialk11r; 07-26-2012 at 05:43 AM. |

Anyways... I've talked with a couple of friends that is helping me get through my situation and it seems like... I might get an opportunity to be a free lance photographer for a pretty well known company you guys all know..
Super Street, Motor Trend and Import Tuner. I'll be getting (hopefully) an opportunity to be on site and see all of their project cars from envision(?) and help a friend take some photos of a modding journey. Granted I don't think I'm super spectacular at photography because of my very limited equipment but I'm going to see this as a little opportunity that's walking pass my way. So... You may start to see one or two of my no-so-superb photos on their websites. I guess I gotta start looking at the good things soon. ~_~
