officially, they're the one's at a dealer that you describe your car making a rattatattatatatatatatatatat sound at the rear left corner whenever you take the on-ramp at mach 3. and they immediately know what it is to be able to tell the tech to fix it.

what they actually send to the tech is "car rattles. diagnosis time, 0.25hrs."

I have no gripe with service writers. They do the bullshitting which allows me to do an honest days work and sleep at night. I'd rather do the work than sell the work. I don't clean possum shit either.

100% accurate.

Or it's, "pull off that large flat rate job you are elbow deep in right now and just come look at this in the lot. It will only take a minute or 20."

I've always had a gift for explaining what I'm doing as I fix peoples shit. Pull 'em right in. "Here. Hold this."

Then the dispatchers had to deal with customers who insisted on waiting for me.

Service writing at some of these Florida dealerships is high pressure with a lot of turnover and burnout. I work in a smaller shop. Started as a part time retirement job but became a full-time torture rack. Keeps me moving though.

I didn't mind it for a while but a handful of bad apples ruined it for me to the point I wouldn't even talk to customers walking through the building. I'd just direct them to the poor service writer.
