I had a buddy in college who got into this by accident. He had some experience mountain climbing and was working as an intern over the summer at a radio station in nowhere, USA. They were going to pay someone to come in to change the lights, and he volunteered, for about 70% of what they were being charged.

Long story short, he did it for several years afterwards. As long as you aren't afraid of heights, its like anything else, you get used to it like those guys you see hanging off beams in skyscrapers.

I worked a construction crew that built The Grizzly roller coaster. On my first day, the first hill had its vertical posts in place and nothing but a 2x6" walkway to the top and a cable where the hand rails would be. I was tasked with carrying the rest of the wood for the walkway to the top of the hill (rookie hazing). First trip, I seriously thought I was going to die any second before I got to the top of the near 90 ft (nine story building). By the end of the build 4 months later, I was hanging underneath the track with no safety rope attaching the metal runners (I bolted all the original track down, hanging upside down laying in the "trough" of the track.

I also had the privilege of being the first person to ride in the back car, and probably one of only 15 people (the construction crew) to ever ride it standing up holding on to the lap bar. We all almost got fired over that one.

20 years later though, I had the opportunity to ride the ride with my 3 sons. That was a life highlight for me.
