It's an accessory belt, so it's highly unlikely to be covered under the powertrain warranty (which is the longer of the two warranties).

I'd take it to an independent Subaru shop, because it'll probably be way cheaper than a dealership.

Belts are a wear item so unless something else failed and caused it, it won't be covered under warranty anyway. Not a huge expense and at that that mileage not really even a surprise.

Ah, okay. Any estimated price on getting it looked at and fixed?
It'd more than likely be one of the pulleys loose or something if it's shredding like that right?

I'd guess it'd be around 150ish dollars. About an hour of labor, and the cost of a new belt.

No idea what it would cost because I have done my own belts for 40 years. May not be anything loose. Didn't realize the mileage you had when I first speculated. Once a belt wears to a certain point they can start to go fast as the tension pulley just doesn't put enough pressure on anymore and it starts to slip a little. I would guess from the pics that yours is slipping quite a bit.

Ah. I'll call up local performance shops around on Monday and hopefully see what's up.
Thanks for all the help guys and any other tips or comments are appreciated!

No worries about sounding dumb. I do it all the time. I don't know the answer but I'm curious. Did the Nissan dealer say anything about the original warranty being transferable?

If it's a front cover oil leak, what could be done and how dangerous is that? I feel like it's oil related because with the last oil change I got, there was quite a ring of oil around the little holder thing (Im terrible with terms).

And not a thing. I asked and they kept talking about their own and it got annoying lol.

Could be (I really could use a higher resolution monitor) but from what I can see the particles all look pretty regular in size and shape. Either way it should be checked out.

Yup belts are wear items, unless he can say the tensioner was broken and weird sounding from day one

If it is then it will have to be resealed. Again not a huge task. The good news is it would be a warranty job. Not a major problem as long as you check your oil on a regular basis. If it is a leak it isn't a horrible one or you would see oil all over the place down there. Reach down there a wipe a finger through it and see if it is either sticky or slippery.
The oil around the filter is not a big deal it happens when they pull the filter (that is why the filter base is shaped the way it is). Just means they are sloppy in their clean up.

So your vote for belt or oil leak?

Just keep checking your dipstick. Make sure you do it on level ground after it's been sitting for a few minutes. You're fine as long as you don't let it run low. If you do have to add oil, DO NOT overfill it.

The last oil filter may have been loose but that's a stretch. Tough to say without more pictures at different angles.
