Gir thats a dumb argument mate. I think 7500 is reasonable. I dont like the idea of going 15K on the same oil in a car that will be driven fairly hard.

My point was you're really just making up a number to go by, and ignoring what the manufacture suggests because it doesn't feel right.

that's fair enough. i guess it comes down to personal choice ultimately. A lot of turbo cars are recommended 10K but most people (me included) do 5K. I also change my filter every time I change my oil.

it depends on what oil you use and most importantly how your car is used.

it is up to you how often you want to change it. there is really no need to argue. if you are comfortable to stick to what Toyota specify then that's good. some of us prefer to have more frequent oil change due to how we use our car.

bare in mind what Toyota specified is the bare minimum.

All Toyota servicing is 10,000km/ 6 months. The only exceptions are the Aurion/Camry and the 86 at 15,000km/ 9 months. (Older Camrys are 1 year service intervals, which is too long in my opinion.)

For the service Advantage thing, you have to take your car in every 9 months to get all services at that price. So effectively for most people the interval is less than 15,000km (for the first 3 years anyhow).

your logic does not take into account people taking there cars to the track, or driving in "severe conditions" eg dusty etc. that should be in the cars manual and will be probably be every 7500km anyway

Manufacturer service intervals are as much about marketing as they are engineering.

Think of services like a use by date on food. 99% of the time the date is meaningless, and it exists purely to cover the manufacturer if someone doesn't service the car, and is selected to minimize potential issues that the manufacturer would have to repair.

You can change the oil whenever you want, I was merely stating there's no benefit to making up a number different from the manufacturer's.

And if Subaru and Toyota have different OCIs for exactly the same engine in exactly the same car, which one is right?

I don't know what my oil change interval will be. What I do know is that it will be determined by used oil analysis, not the Subaru/Toyota marketing departments.

Well I might have been a bit spoiled buying oil through a race team and only needing 2L at a time but a DIY oil change is $90-100, depending on how many kms you do per year that might only mean 1-2 extra oil changes.

If they are different (which I doubt), I'd go for the one that's giving you a warranty.

Subaru service schedules are every 6mths/12,500km. that's different to Toyota for 86 (9mths/15,000km). don't know if Subaru would change it for BRZ but i doubt it....

you are definitely correct about point 2.
