if headers have thermal coating, reduce heat engine compartment? It would be less hot than headers original?
JDL headers can be installed preserving OEM overpipe?

1) Maybe. Stock header has a heat shield. I don't know how thermal coating compares to those shields. But the thermal coating is definitely worth doing.

2) Yes, but because the pipes are a different diameter, you might get some strange noises--that is, it may sound even more like a diesel at low RPMs than it does now.

Keep in mind that header wrap will help muffle the sound a bit also.

Not really; if anything it'll make it louder due to the higher exhaust gas energy.

Bare aftermarket headers tend to 'ring' a bit more, especially the thinner walled ones. Not much of a difference outside the car, but in cabin you hear a lot more noise from them without heat shields and sitting above that thin metal panel. Not sure if header wrap will do much, maybe dampen the resonance a bit, but overall the shield on the stock headers is one of the reasons stock headers are quieter *in cabin*.

As I recall, my p&l header (catted) was no louder than stock. Everything in back of header was stock. I will get another header but leave everything else alone. I like quiet. Lol

The noise isn't specific to the header. The engine itself sounds diesel-like at low RPMs.

I have the topspeed catted header. It's marketed as UEL. It's TECHNICALLY unequal length, but by like 10%, not the drastically different length UELs that have the burble.

I'd classify it as EL, since it has more of a top-end power bump and sounds like an EL.

However, it still did wonders to fix the torque dip (with a OFT tune), and sounds great. It is louder than stock, for sure... But it's really quiet as far as headers go.

I have it paired with an axleback - so between the high-flow cat on the header and the factory mid-pipe/resonator it's got a GREAT growl under acceleration and has the occasional pop/burble under deceleration but idles and cruises at a near-stock volume. ZERO drone, as well. I honestly think it's perfect.

Makes sense in that regard. Only first hand experience I have is going from unwrapped to having my downpipe, overpipe, and manifold wrapped. It definitely seemed to attenuate a lot of the unpleasantries although it could have just been from the pipes being new.
