I have been happy with my Nexus 7, Torque app and Bluetooth ODB2 sensor method, it is way cheaper than the AIM solo option but pf course AIM solo is more comprehensive unit but TBH never needed one.. I also use GoPro and my cell phone app for track data and some new lap timer apps can also merge engine data if the RPM gauge and few other things are very important

Just got my obd2 wifi elm thing and tested it with a free iOS app and it worked great, right off the bat, with oil temps and all. I'll opt for the paid version which is supposed to be better. To keep an eye on temps I'd say a cheaper alternative like this is more cost effective. Thanks!

Its called EOBD- Facile, looks a bit cheap but then again its free lol. Probably end up getting either dash command or fusion for $10.

Hard to be an Aim Solo DL for a fairly stock 86. If you need more sensors though it becomes lacking. At this point I am trying out a "Race Capture Pro v2" on my spec miata so I can have analog channels.

Use an old Samsung gs3 Bluetooth odb2 adapter. This along with torque. I only monitor 2 things. Oil and coolant temps. Then i use the phone to track lap times. Its cheap and works decently.

Is it possible to get oil temps from Harry's Lap Timer? I know it's unlikely but it's really the only thing it's lacking for me.
Might have to compromise and use torque for the first few runs than switch to Harry's once I'm confident that the car is safe and I'm hunting for speed. |

Yes, HLT provides oil temps. It was added late last summer.

I have used torque with the ELM327 bluetooth ODB reader.
I also have a traqmate with the camera, but it cannot read very many engine parameters and cannot do it over OBD (it uses analog inputs). For my 71 vintage racecar I built my own datalogger from scratch. It logs: Tach, 2XEGTs, 2XCHTs, AFR, Fuel pressure, oil temp & pressure & throttle position. it writes it all to a micro-sdcard or can display it realtime on a droid phone. I plan on adding GPS & accelerometer data next. Total cost was ~$300 in parts. It can also monitor any of those and turn on the dash warning light if any go out of range. Cool thing was at the track last weekend, I felt the car loosing power so I brought it in and looked at the data. I could immediately tell that my AFR was tredning higher & higher and one of my EGTs dropped abruptly by 1000 degrees. Pulled the main jets and sure enough - cyl #3 jet was clogged completely. This was just minutes after a longtime "racing expert" was telling me that logging data was a waste of time :-) |

I know very little about data logging, but here is a new option for Android users:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Kircher-Electronics-Force-OBDII-Performance/dp/B00MI5GE5A?tag=viglink28253-20"]Force OBDII[/ame] Disclaimer: this was developed by a friend of mine. I think he's a pretty bright guy and knows his stuff. That said, I don't have significant experience with data logging, so if you guys have any opinion about it, I'd love to hear it. |

Mind posting up how to get to it? HLT is not very intuitive for me to navigate.
I know the community had to develop a custom PID for Torque to work with the Toyobaru's sensor. |

Here you go. I just went to the car, started it up, launched HLT, waiting for everything to connect, and then hit the "start driving" button. This is what I see.
