And rightfully so. It seems counterintuitive that taking a ton of metal out of a flywheel could actually benefit it. I can't wrap my mind around it. I find solace in the fact that I've never heard of a modified flywheel coming apart, only alumininum ones and stock ones.

You can hear the clutch slip, then bang it comes apart:

Dropped off the stock flywheel to be lightened today but it sounds like 5lbs is the max goal and 3lbs is the more likely so in the end I will just sell it for what I paid as I have found another option.

Exedy part number FF502. 12.7 lb flywheel that works with our stock clutch. I have it installed and can vouch for it.

My other thread was asking if that is the same for the Legacy GT and WRX then why not use the other Chromoly brands for those cars which are less than the 300+ for the Exedy.

I paid $290 for the Exedy. I don't see why the others wouldn't fit!

Logically I don't either but the same logic goes against that, if you are an aftermarket parts maker why make a one off flywheel for only the BRZ and FRS if these others will work?

It's a much smaller market for that item if they do it so there has to be a reason.

This is the dilemma and now that there is an option for 219 shipped for a 13lbs Chromoly there is no point in checking. (Unless someone wants to try and use the WRX Clutch itself but the price point seems to negate that from what I saw, but I did not look that hard)

I'm having issues with a 7lb lighter flywheel. I'm using Competition stage 3 clutch with 7lb lighter flywheel from stock. I'm car stalls if I'm in neutral and I give it some revs. The rpm drops too fast for the fuel map to catch up and induce rev hang to prevent it from dipping to 500rpm and dieing. I have a Greddy turbo in the car for more than 2 months and never had this issue till I got the clutch installed 2 weeks ago. See video for how it stalls. I think I need my tuner to adjust the tune for the quick drops in rpm under no load conditions like free reving the motor or reversing into a spot where you slip the clutch and let it rev hang sometimes. Maybe increasing the idle will fix this?

Yes you need to adjust your tune, I have a lighter flywheel, crank and other pulleys and a lighter drive shaft.

It has been so quiet around here lately that I am tempted to re-kindle the debate about how lightweight drivetrain components actually give very little performance benefit.
Example: The lightweight driveshaft gives almost no benefit above and beyond removing the same weight from say - the battery. (In fact I could make the argument that removing the same weight from the battery would make a bigger difference than from the driveshaft)

all you have to do stu is wait for koolbrz to make another thread about enlarging the exhaust tips to help with mid range torque or something.

Because I believe it does provide a result, you don't why are you trying to push a debate that I said I don't want to have.
Go debate with someone else I'm not going to waste my time doing it. What you believe has no relevance at all to what I believe and chose to do with my vehicles.
