Nitro, i just took the factory unit out and am about to put in a z140. it looks like theres one extra wire in the 6 pin connector. Did you find this? Is that for the amp?

Looking at your 6 pin connector, what is the orange wire for?

See this post (#20 there) about the power antenna and amp turn-on leads.

The extra orange wire on the aftermarket 6-pin Toyota harness is the illumination(-) lead in Subarus. This wire is not needed by aftermarket head units. If your aftermarket harness (Metra, Scosche, etc.) has that, either insulate the end, or extract the whole pin/wire.

You usually do want to use the illumination(+) lead, on the 10-pin harness.

Sometime soon I'll post a real pin-out table, customized for the BRZ and FR-S.

Thanks! I figured it out after i found a wiring legend. I even found the speed sensor wire.

Do you know if theres a reverse sensor wire? That wasnt on the wiring list i found.

If you're going to use the AppRadio mode, I wouldn't suggest running the cable to the glove box. When you switch to AppRadio you have to tap "Allow" on the iphone's screen.

I have a iphone 5 and the cable isn't out yet. Im just running the usb extension inside the glove box and mounting it there.

great write up!!

The only thing i'm not too happy about is how far our the 2 din stereo sits with the factory brackets.

There doesnt seem to be any others on the market which solve this problem....unless ive overlooked it somehow

Great write up, I will just add my 2c. The wiring in the BRZ (european spec, premium) seems a little different: the yellow cable on the metra connector (70-1761) does not match with subaru's connectors. It took me two days of hair pulling to figure this out. You have to remove matra yellow cable from the 6 pin connector and place it in the 10 pin connector in such a way that it connects to subaru's orange cable.

Hope it will help someone.

S.

Any body looking to get this head unit? I have everything you need. head unit, wire harness already connected to metra harness, gps antenna, the inserts around the head unit to fit the fr-s dashboard, the parking break relay. I bought this setup and then broke my iphone which is the whole reason i got this setup. I got a droid and just dont like how it connects with my droid. Asking $350 shipped. Pics to come tomorrow

Sry to raise this thread from the dead. I followed it and got everything working except the parking brake bypass (PAC TR7). Hook black to black, red to res, white to lime green (ebrake), and green to blue/white stripe. Is there anything additional I need to do to get this working?

Just installed the pioneer avh-4200nex and used every thing in this write up he used. The only thing is my Sirius Xm is not even able to be selected now. Am I missing something to hook up to the oem Xm radio satellite?
