Unfortunately, SOA did not get back in touch with me this morning.

I finally called them and was connected with a different rep. Essentially blew me off and reneged on the willingness to initiate process with a tech via telephone. I spent the day waiting so as to be available by the car and phones...to no avail.

Shame on SOA - very poor responsiveness, and communication is even worse.

Checked with a guy I know at Fujitsu Ten today. Going to try something this weekend. I'll let you know if it has any effect.

Any chance you can ask if there is a way to flatten out the signal from the factory nav unit?

The factory stereo applies different levels of equalization depending on the volume level, for example as I turn the volume up the bass level frequency doesn't seem to keep up. Wondering if there is a trick or cheat to stop this from happening?

Interesting. I can ask them about it, sure.

I'm using an Audiocontrol EQS DSP and a separate bass control knob, so I may not notice this as much as the stock user. Either way, it's definitely something to be aware of.

I have a service appointment scheduled tomorrow and a New England Subaru field engineer will be there to assess NAV/Voice Recognition/Sat radio reception.

Some of these problems are intermittent...we will see how well behaved they operate tomorrow!

Good work guys! I've also been experiencing big problems with my Nav syncing with the satellites. It's very frustrating. I'd say more than 50% of my time in the car is with no nav sync. It's terrible!

I've been meaning to call the service department, but I haven't had the time.. and of course, with my luck.. it would work perfectly for them when they try it.

Update: Rep from Subaru of New England (SNE) met me Friday and tried to reproduce problems. SNE drove the car for an hour (put 50 miles on it!!!) and of course, wouldn't you now it, navigation system was behaving and worked appropriately. Name recognition failed 10/10 as expected. We discussed relatively poor sat radio reception as well.

He advised that SOA acknowledged some problems with the head unit, and that they were trying to collect field data to troubleshoot. He requested pictures of the screen with malfunctions, including a data screen that has 2 steps to get into (see picture #2 below).

To get to that screen, you have to press (at the same time) and hold both the audio and BT buttons (somewhat tricky), and then press and hold the map button. The screen then shows status of various users. NOTE: My system might have had a glitch, but the only way to exit that screen was to turn the car off, and shut the engine. He thought you could press the audio or head unit power buttons to exit, but not on my unit.

In any event, NAV system hiccuped later that day, and I sent him some pictures. This is something you can try at home, but be ready to turn off the engine to get out of that data mode!

Maybe others can post their data - more is better.

I tried your procedure and got to the screen for your second picture, but there wasn't much info that I could access from there. Your fourth picture shows the map display with the spinning satellite icon that you can press to get to your third picture. But, that icon often doesn't show and I don't know how to get to the status window in your third photo when it doesn't. I posted some status display photos showing the nav doesn't lock even when receiving four or five satellites on this other thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9157
Anyway, there is more info available in the service menu.

To get to the service menu you press and hold the same three buttons you list but you press the audio button last. There are pictures of what the menu looks like here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...3&postcount=15
From the Function Check/Setting selection you can then select GPS& Vehicle Sensors. The first window shows the GPS satellite reception status and from there you press Sensors Check at the top to get to the vehicle sensor status. That is the screen I showed in the other thread that shows the speed from the VSC signal to the nav is wrong.

*I would like to know if this speed is wrong for the nav for other peoples nav units too.*

To get out of the service menu press and hold the volume nob like you do to turn off audio.

I agree - I too don't know why they want this particular diagnostic screen, but it is the screen they asked to see.

I have also noticed that sometimes the spinning satellite might or might not be viewable on the display. Interestingly, when I was "snapping" pictures, I noticed that if it not visible, the spinning satellite would briefly appear almost every time I took a shot. I repeated it a few times just to make sure I wasn't crazy, and it happened repeatedly. It also possibly??? induced re-capture of the signal, as location corrected shortly there-after. Weird, Huh???

I will pass the link along to SOA, if you haven't already.
