In the UK yellow (amber) means stop unless doing so would cause an accident or you have already crossed the line.

Main junction lights go:
GREEN - Proceed
SOLID AMBER - STOP
RED - STOP
RED + AMBER - STOP

In reality:
GREEN - Proceed
SOLID AMBER - if the person in front goes, follow them. If the person behind comes too, sigh at their recklessness.
RED - STOP
RED + AMBER - Go Go GO!

If it's a pedestrian crossing and it's flashing amber that means "Proceed if the crossing is clear." Although some people think it means weave through the pedestrians still on the crossing.

I don't think you can be charged with going through an Amber light, but you might get pulled over and a talking to. You WILL get done for going through a red. They have spot fine cameras on quite a few lights.

Pretty sure the law in all of north America is first to stop then yield to the person to the right if at same time.
That is the law as was taught in driver's ed AND in multiple traffic school courses...damn speeding tickets...

actually in Cali, you must at least pass the white line into the intersection while it is still yellow without accelerating to do so, then you are good.

So if I'm approaching an intersection at 40mph, and the light turns yellow when I'm 6 inches before the stop line, I'm supposed to stop in those 6 inches?

^ damn it I guess I would go allin all the time lol

Forgive me for getting off the topic lol but the speed limit & position of the traffic light is suppose to be designed in the way that u always have the time to react to yellow light. So you won't see the traffic light "above" after u reached certain distance within the intersection, but another indication light on the direction of travel.

This is an really easy system to introduce to the current us system & I think it will improve us traffic safety by a lot.

After living in Spain for a year, I am a firm believer in the roundabout as far as efficiency goes, but that all breaks down as soon as you get to the MASSIVE roundabouts, I've seen people stuck in the inside lane doomed to go round in circles for eternity... Two lanes, or four lanes are perfect. But five 8 lane roads converging into the same roundabout is just ridiculous!

FIFY

Intersections will forever be one of the high risk zones due to people's varying interpretations of yellow, combined with nonconformity of yellow durations between systems

I have never figured out WHY a roundabout needs more than two lanes!

What are the inner lanes for? Are they the "fast lanes"?
Or are they just convenient skidpads for testing max G-force?

I agree that 3 lanes is about the limit of sense on normal roundabouts.

Usually they are 2 lane roundabouts with 2 entry lanes and 2 exit lanes. So you can use either lane to go straight on through. If you want to go right, you join in the inside lane and cross the outside lane as you exit. You "should" have a clear outside lane if the roundabout is working and nobody is being a ****.

Over here the large roundabouts are spiral junctions with traffic lights both on the roundabout and on the entries. They often have 3 or 4 lanes and are quarter of a mile wide sometimes. When they are stretched out, like around the pillars of a motorway overpass, they are more like short sections of road split up with junctions.

That's basically all a roundabout is. If you snip it at one point and stretch it out straight (like breaking a paper Christmas hat) it's just a straight bit of road with T junctions along it. People on the road going to the further T junctions use the right hand lane if there is one and cut across to exit, people using the earlier ones use the left lane.

Person on your right has the right of way, so if you arrive at the south and another person arrives at the east simultaneously, east goes first.
