likely culprit. I assumed single partition.

Sorry, forgot that I went back and deleted that NTFS partition so that it was unallocated...still did not work.
Let me know if you figure this out...otherwise, I will have to consider a large flash drive. Cheers!

Is the unallocated part before, or after the fat32? If it was first, then delete the fat32 partition and start over. What software are you using?

Agreed, it's been awhile for me too since I messed with this sort of thing but you might now have a single partition that is actually partition 2 instead of 0. Try formating the drive then partition your fat32 sector only. If that doesn't work I'd call it a bust myself.

When I created the fat32 partition, it allocated it at the end...I could not see how I could make it partition 0, but I will go back and double check. I am using Windows Disk Management.

Then create a 64 GB partition and format it to fat32. If you make the partition any larger you won't be able to format it to fat32 with native Windows tools.

Thanks!
In theory, it should work, but nothing I have tried has worked out yet...maybe you will find the key.

Taking a guess here, but make sure the disk is formatted using MBR and not GPT. Google it if you need instructions or are curious. tldr; GPT is more modern and allows for larger HDDs, MBR was only compatible with HDDs of total volume <= 2TB.
And there are reasons for FAT32 not being commonly used, a big one being the fact that it cant handle files larger than 4GB. |

I tried making the partition Active to see if that helps, but no. Thanks.

Just tried a 256gb flash drive and it works flawlessly, even with high bit rate lossless files. Unfortunately, the head unit sucks, so I cannot choose individual folders. This is not a big deal as I tend to play shuffle anyway.
I am still interested in using the hard drive if someone figures it out. Thanks for all the help so far.

Format the entire hard drive to Fat32 do not partition it. You can download software that will allow you to format larger hard drives than the drop down box would normally allow. Again I use a 250GB USB powered hard drive and it works great. I have several hundred albums on it.
