This ^. Drive aggressively in a safe manner and you are typically in control of the situation. Most of my accidents over the course of my 20+ years of driving were when I was trying to be cautious. I am not saying to be a lunatic just more aggressive than passive.

So do you think custom exhaust will work? If they can't see you, may be they can hear you... just saying!

I had almost the same thing happen to me two days ago. I was driving in the right-most lane on the hwy, and the lane to my left was wide open. I signaled, checked my blind spot even though I knew it was clear, and merged. I started accelerating, and turned off my signal as I was now fully in the lane, and I see to the left of me one lane over a Prius starts merging into my lane (not signaling, just sort of drifting towards my car) with their front bumper merging into where my door handle is.

I sped up to get away from the assuming they were just your typical bad driving failing to maintain their lane, but as I did so they just kept floating over and I had a wtf moment and accelerate more to clear them. As I look into my rear view mirror their signal comes on for two flashes (after they are fully in the lane now) and they look oblivious like they had no idea what just happened, or like I had just cut them off.

Our cars are low, but that's no excuse for people to not have their mirrors adjusted properly - after all motorcyclists are lower than our car, but yeah - lately I feel like I've had so many close calls with my car, and none of them being the fault of my own. What's been driving me crazy is that I seem to keep running into these psycho pedestrians lately that yell or spit at my car while they approach a crosswalk without stopping when I'm already in the middle of the intersection, or straight up keep on walking when traffic has a green light (happened to me just a few minutes ago, and the kid was all angry and yelling at me because I proceeded through the intersection after the car in front of me when we had a green light).

I think it is a huge problem in this country (and others, I'm sure) that in this day and age, everyone is entitled to owning a driver's license. When you consider any other dynamic activity that requires some form of communication, anticipation, and respect - say Baseball for example, if you gather a group of 100 people well maybe 10 - 20 of them would be decent enough to be considered to play on the team. So why is driving any different? It's an even more dynamic activity that requires a great amount of skill and focus - the cost of which is death or serious injury to any number of people, property, and animals.

Holy f*ck, I hate people .

When I anticipate someone is going to cut in front of me (typically at decent highway speeds but with all lanes filled), I downshift when they're cruising adjacent to me to let the exhaust let them know, "hey there's a motorized vehicle here". Not sure if that works well.

Next step is a train horn, because driving around Scarborough with that would be priceless

You and I had very similar experiences...

I need to go take a picture of the damage to my rims just to make it even MORE eerily similar. Perhaps we should get new personalized plates that say INVSBL.

Need more DRLs/LEDs! And a side mirror light indicator would have been nice on our cars.

I have people pull out in front of me, speed up when I catch them, nearly blow stop signs starring at me, nearly rear end me.

Most of the problem is law enforcement is too busy setting up speed traps and nailing those doing 5-10 over on the highway and over looking all the driving etiquette laws that are being broken. People have been allowed to become ignorant and unaccountable for their improper driving habits.

My three biggest pet peeves about other drivers:
-Riding in the left lane and not moving over when others are obviously going faster then you
-Not able to maintain a constant speed(99% of vehicles have cruise control, use it!)
-Texting, reading, putting on makeup, or any other highly distracting activity while driving
I'm posting this while driving, just for you

1) As others have said, drive defensively. In my experience, people are less likely to see this car than when I drive a taller car, like my GTI.

2) I also found a louder exhaust helps. If you're stuck in someone's blind spot and worried, blip a downshift. Not only will he hear you hopefully, but you'll be in a better position to quickly accelerate (or brake) as necessary.

Not sure they'll hear the exhaust with the subwoofer so loud your skull feels like it will explode...two lanes over.

More reasons for me to get an exhaust now haha.
