I am one of those who enjoys this car in stock form. I appreciate it for what it doesn't have and it's simplicity.
I think many feel the power doesn't match the looks.. or they don't like working the engine to make it go all the time..
This car offers lots of feedback, which some consider to be noise.. Lots of newbies getting into this car and not appreciating what they have and criticizing it for what it doesn't have..
Took me years to understand and appreciate a car like this.. Don't be so hard on them.. They will get it eventually..

LOL great stuff, then and now. If I recall right, one way to pull up this guys other car reviews is to search for "Hungarian Wolverine" on Youtube hahaha.

This video made me go and put a deposit down for the Hot-Lava 1.5 years ago.

It's been an adventure ever since.

Except, I don't have the same beautiful scenery around here.. or maybe I do? Only one way to find out

You will learn to look for the twisty routes on the GPS (just about the only use I have for this Nav unit)
You will learn to love Bayview Extension more than the DVP.
You will love going up Leslie and Don Mills instead of the DVP.
You will look forward to snowy commutes.
You will learn to dodge potholes with alacrity.
You will find yourself mentally measuring the size and smoothness of industrial area parking lots and shopping mall parking lots.
You will make note of them, and remind yourself to come back when these playgrounds are deserted.
You will look forward to taking the car to a track (something I've yet to do)

You will thank yourself later.

But yes, you will continue to be immensely jealous of the people who have access to the Pacific Coast Highway, or lovely southern European roads, or twisty Japanese mountain roads.

Google YouTube Toyota 86 touge - toyotajpchannel and try to find the Toyota Japan channel about driving 86 around the beautiful scenic routes in Japan.
It Will make you weep that you don't live in Japan. It shows Toyota 86 driving around in its natural habitat - nice curvy roads, sceneries and all that.
Damn I wish I lived in Japan.
