So the exhaust manifold flanges are what are warping (not a flat mounting flange) or is it the manifold tubing itself that expands and contracts to flex the flanges ("cambered" flanges due to heat cycling)?

I had the leak since first install, which would point to not flat flange. Other people have had it different.

AVO posted in some threads how all Subaru manifolds are not flat because of the horizontally opposed design, but still does not explain why there is no other manifold having leak problems (I think Nameless header had a few issues). No FBM, JDL, MAP even FA20club kits report exhaust leaks at the alarming rate AVO does.

I think it is a combination of poor manufacturing processes causing an initial unlevel surface and the weight of the turbo hanging off the UEL manifold also eventually causing issues.

my kit held up great. no leaks, made good power. it is being replaced in favor of much more power though. guess mine will be a good kit to pick up used lol
