Modern engines are very tight from the factory. Break them in gently for 1,000 miles then drive the wheels off it for another 5,000 miles or no more than six months from purchase.

After initial break in you should be driving at full throttle whenever possible and reaching red line as often as possible, preferably both at the same time. That will seat the rings and make sure there are no no-wear ridges in the bores.

Just don't load up the engine before 1,000 miles.

Yes, I understand the break in requirements (keep under 4k rpm during first 1,000 miles, etc.). I was referring to the "break-in" oil. Has anyone heard of that from their Toyota dealer?

I remember when I was getting the car handed over to me, the detail guy said the scion boost coverage for oil change and tire rotation should be used at 7500 miles or 7.5 months (whichever came first) and so on...
