Thanks to everyone especially the OH locals who commented. I will definitely come to some SCCA events and Ohio Speedway stuff. I am glad there are so many helpful people on this forum. Its nice to have a lot of resources to learn from as opposed to trying and getting into trouble on your own.

Feel free to attend drift events, but keep in mind that what S13/14 guys often do you can't do in your BRZ. They often run clutch-type differentials that lock up under easy acceleration, and the 2-way diffs lock up under braking when going into a corner hot.

Not the same with our Torsen differentials, which require you to be more on the throttle to get/keep it sideways.

Lastly: don't "push" your car into corners. If you're understeering, you're doing something wrong at the initiation point. Go back and fix the mistake and/or get instruction, and not just from some random dude that knows how to power slide.

Find an empty parking lot with NO LAMP POSTS and NO POLICE or PEOPLE WHO WILL CALL THE POLICE (your be surprised how bad a ticket can be for playing in an empty lot!). Next, spray tire shine all over the tread of your back tires. Now try to drive around at a slow speed without spinning. Add rain if the tire shine isn't losing enough traction. Don't ask me how long that stuff will last though.

Or, buy a pair of donut spares for any Civic/Scion/Impreza, etc. The narrow little tires - probably $25 used. Put them on the back of your car, turn off traction control, and have fun.

Learning drift - not so important. Learning to control oversteer - VERY important! Skills you may need on a rainy or snowy day. Bottom line, if you're losing traction, point the front wheels where you want to go. This works for FWD and RWD, understeer or oversteer. Just point those front wheels toward the direction you want the car to go.

As for how to more safely induce oversteer: downshift before a turn, and after you've passed the apex, give it too much gas. That'll get the back end loose, and since you've passed the apex, should keep the car in your lane if things get squirrelly. But this isn't something you want to practice with other cars around. The mother of 3 bringing her kids home from camp will not be impressed with you crashing sideways into the front of her car.

Oh - if you have Netflix, watch Initial D cartoon. He goes through all the different basic steps in drifting, and car control be it FWD, RWD, or AWD. It's practically a tutorial of sorts. Also note the result whenever talent is pressed to its limit.

Damn you were killing it! I really need to get out to a track, I'm just drifting in these Chicago streets...probably not the best idea.
