I have an awesome project for my car. I plan on programming a Galaxy Nexus (Android phone) to be integrated within the car itself. Doing so I will have free 4G hot spot, unlimited data for any other device in the car. I will be able to: track the car via GPS, Record audio, Take pictures, Record Video, Say Messages. With even more work messing with the car's electronics I'll be able to control everything on the car from my phone. I've been planning on getting this car for 3-4 years and the project for 2 years

I wonder if the Limiteds will be targeted for their seats and push-start?
ok, maybe just the seats... and headlights!

Thats not to say that you cant get lucky though so I'm not opposed to them. Again at the end of the day it comes down to layers of PROPERLY implemented security. Or just say screw it, that's what insurance is for. That's where I'm at for 2 of my cars. The other has layers, fake alarm brains, fake sirens, fake hood pin sensors, etc to waste a thieves time and sits in a garage, etc.

I really don't go anywhere, and if my wife and I go somewhere sketchy we'll just take her car lol.
At home I'm going to put up cameras not for theft but for vandalism which unfortunately has happened in our neighborhood. I'll also try to park in the garage as much as I can. |

I may try the lojack alarm at least. If say my car had some sort of vibration detection sensor that set off the alarm and notified me via my phone. It gives me time to notify authorities while tracking the thieves. If anything I'd hope to at least catch the bandits even if I come across my baby stripped to metal.
This is the GPS system I was looking at http://www.crutchfield.com/p_607DSM250/Python-DSM250-Smart-Start-GPS.html?tp=151

I have hoped for the last 10 years that my car would get stolen. I'd be pretty devastated if it happened after I got my BRZ.

Alarms, deterrents and such will scare away newbie/petty/amateur thieves.
For the pros, if they want your car, they WILL get it. |

I live in one of the poorest cities in my state (just outside Boston despite what my profile says). Our cars are parked outside. They're both Subarus. Look up lists of the most stolen vehicles. Here's one:
http://editorial.autos.msn.com/artic...umentid=434545 Generally older cars and none of them are Subarus. As someone who lives in the "ghetto" I don't worry too much because there are much easier and more popular cars for thieves to go after all over the place. Of course...it helps that this is probably where stolen parts end up, not where they come from. |
