I definitely prefer sport mode ON because at least you have a better feeling for the limits of the car. But I'll leave TC in the partially on/off (sport) because it allows you to more smoothly regain from a skid.
I was going to ask about these modes, then I found this video, found it useful to help me understand what I'm up against.. I agree with a prev comment by the experience track driver, that it's a matter of when and not if.. especially here in snow country.

One of the bigger challenges to face in the car is weight distribution. If you put someone in the back the car will be more tail happy. But if you put someone in the side the car will be more slide happy.

In general, I keep VSC/TC in Sport mode. This is for general driving around town. I like kicking the back out a little bit whenever I can. I've yet to turn it completely off - I'll save that for if/when I'm in a safe location like a track.

I will leave the system in normal mode in cases of inclement weather - if the ground is wet/snowy/etc.

To note, the system is very intrusive in normal mode on the stock rubber. Any sort of quick turn will get it to kick on and cut the power. Since I've switched to stickier summer tires it's much less annoying, particularly in Sport mode.

I do about 90% of my driving with all nannies on. I only used the snow mode a couple times when commuting in a snowfall. It slows your launch so that you dont start off spinning. I've only fully disabled VSC a couple times to fool around. I plan to use sport mode and VSC fully disabled on the track to get a better understanding of the vehicle's dynamics.

I haven't tinkered much with the TC/VSA system yet but the other day I was making a left turn at an intersection at moderate speed. A mid corner bump sent my rear end sliding even with the system in normal mode. I was surprised that the TC/VSA system didn't kick in sooner. I slid almost a second before I felt the system kick in. It was fun but I thought the system is more sensitive when it's in the normal mode?

Would the TC/VSA system wear the breaks out faster overall?

From what I've experienced the nannies don't apply the brakes. The system just cuts power.

i might be wrong but the stability control uses abs while traction control cuts power

if you think about it, you can slide without throttle so cutting power would be useless in those situations

Makes sense. I suspect I've never had anything other than the traction control kick in.

You know, I wonder if that's not backwards - trac uses abs, vsc cuts power.

As I said above, I mostly run in VSC Sport mode, which shuts the traction control off, but leaves VSC on with a higher threshhold. When I get a little extreme, all that system does is cut power on me.

Off.
Always.
It's the first thing I do. 90% of the time in winter too (Studded tires on this car is unbelievably good).
So I can have fun if I want, but mostly because I don't trust the system. Sometimes you need to power out of a situation.
I know it dangerous and an insurance liability. I've raced this car on ice, driven in snow storms without spinning the tires. As long as your aren't driving like a moron your fine (depending on experience level)
