Why aren't we allowed to use a slang term but you can? Oh yeah! He's the Head Wheelitest!

Ninja edit: I just noticed that everyone in the thread contributed to the OP's question but you. You corrected his/her slang term.
Rims is derogatory. Why are you being the "only making positive contributions police?"

I don't consider rims a derogatory term. I consider it slang. I just don't think it's cool to be an internet bully. Go from thread to thread and tell people they shouldn't use a slang word, turn right around and use slang that you find acceptable and not add anything else to the thread.

It bugs me to no end. This forum is still very young and very positive. We have a wealth of knowledge, opionions and criticism to share with our fellow FT'ers around the globe. We aren't always gonna agree on everything and this is one of those instances.

I'll let it go. Haters gonna hate and I've just gotta accept it.

Nope. The rims are real, as are the pics. From their website.

Sorry, I must've fallen asleep at the wheel again. When did "rims" become derogatory? We've been using rims and wheels interchangeably since I was a kid (admittedly, that's a long time ago) - I didn't realize there was a battle going on between these two terms and one of them is now considered derogatory!

I gotta pay more attention to these damnfangled intertubes.

Just so you know, you are the problem you describe. A few people "policed" the OP then you "policed" those people.

It's my opinion that rims is a derogatory slang word for large wheels with shinny finishes often made of chrome. If the OP is trying to donk his ride than maybe he did use the correct term.

I think it happened around 2001.

Yep. You are right. That's why I said in the post that you quoted "I'll let it go." I'm not gonna be "that guy" that I'm complaining about. If @leon78 wants to go into every "rim" thread and tell people that their wrong and they should be using "x" word instead, then so be it.

I will continue to use the word rim. I don't believe it to be derogatory but rather slang.

Thank You for your opinion.

The correct term is wheel. The rim is a piece of the wheel; however, when I say I need new wheels people either think I want a new car or new tires...not that I want new circular disks that my car rides on.

Yes, you get it. Our lexicon is fluid.

You know what? When you say something is "nauseous" it means that the fucking thing causes nausea. It drives me up the wall when people say they're "nauseous" when really they're "nauseated." (Okay they might also be nauseous, but that's not what they meant).

But I've grown to accept this thing, because I might as well try to change the tide.
