Possibly. That could get very annoying, because you need 5th gear a lot when it's that short.

A lot of the earlier MR2's were plagued by 5th gear pop-out. Mostly the 1985's and maybe some '86s with the C50 gearbox. I don't recall anyone having issues with the C50's in '87s, and they switched to the slightly stronger C52 in late '87. If a particular car isn't doing it by now then I doubt it's going to do it, though.

I must say that I'm leaning towards the wheels/coils right now so I might pass on this MR2. Ive got some more important things to save up for before throwing money around at new toys, but the fact that I cant help but to look at it every day scares me lol.
I passed up a similar offer once, its been haunting me. PM me if you skip this little cart.

Looks as though the car has been sold, it's no longer in the yard. Makes me feel indifferent because I couldn't get it until tomorrow anyway, so it's not like this is something I will regret. I'm happy with how it turned out and that the smarter decision was probably made for me, now just have to finally decide on some wheels.

Thanks for all of the great advice, though! These cars are timeless.
