when I said wheels, I meant tires, sorry lol. I've obviously never test driven one of these but I figured it would further improve handling to have a wider rear and narrow front. Assuming this car likes to oversteer a lot.

Ah, there is a whole thread about that as well due to SCION and SUBARU messing w/ the suspension

They were trying to make a neutrally balanced car. Uniform tire sizes (especially when they're using Prius rubber) is an easy way to do that. Once you start putting more width in the rear than the front, you start inducing understeer. My 1995 M3 (last year without traction control) came with (and still has) same widths front and rear. The next year they went to staggered (and traction control). A very popular thing in the BMW crowd for those not pushing excessive power is to unstagger the widths and go back to the neutral setup. Understeer is the enemy.

Lol I know what adding more width to the tires in the rear does to a car in terms of handling. The reviews I read on magazines that have driven the car, they say it's rear bias (oversteers more) so it isn't exactly balanced. That's fine for people who like to drift around on/off ramps, but I'll be tracking my FR-S so I'd much rather have predictable handling characteristics...but that's me. I know we'll be able to easily change the tires and wheels to fit our liking but I'm just saying.

That's not the impression I've gotten from the reviews. IMO they've been saying that it's neutral with mild understeer at the limit, but that it's easy to step the tail out with a bit of throttle. No modern production car will oversteer at the limit, even race cars and drift cars aren't set up to oversteer at the limit. That's just asking for trouble.

Exactly. Even when the reviews says "it's easy to step the tail out with a bit of throttle", its with that low performing Prius tires. Also a lot of the test drives were in the rain. I highly doubt the car will tend to oversteer in stock form with decent rubber on it.

@3scapist, if you track your car, you're going to have an extra set of wheels for the track tires anyway. You can have it staggered anyway you want.

Also, coilovers in theory should take up less space, so even wider wheels will be possible then.

For most people though, anything beyong a 8.5" wheel is going to be either for looks (deep dish) or autocross/track so they can fit really wide tires on the car... or for drifters to stretch 205s over a 10" wheel or whatever the heck they do.

In my experience with 240's and STI's, coilovers take up more space. in stock trim, you only have the shock/strut tube taking up space beside the wheel, with the spring perch above the tire. With coilovers, the spring and perch are typically further down, filling in the gap between the shock/strut tube and the wheel/tire.

well in my experience aftermarket suspension use 2.25" springs which is likely going to be smaller than the stock 3.xx" springs.

Yep and the last 240 I messed with (a97) had at least 3.5 to 4" width and the perch itself starts to go outward before the top f the tire.

I'm gonna guess or say 7" wide because I have 7.5 on my Evo with 235/45 17 stock wheels and tire size on my Evo.

So a 215 on a 7.5 would be pretty obvious.

Edit: I stand corrected apparently...maybe...

Any news on the weight of the OEM wheels ?
Weight ?
I currently have a set of Enkei RPF-1 on my current car..
but this time around I want to keep it "STOCK" to limit my expenses...
unless the OEM wheels are HEAVY (for 17s )
