Great mod and glad it's being offered.
I loved when I swapped from 3.42s to 4.10s in my Corvette, gearing can REALLY wake a car up

I swap from 4.1 to 4.78 for my S2000. Huge different in accerleration, only around 10% different of MPG. This is what I want to do to my FRS in the future.
Our car is not that big of HP and TQ. I don't think without any special treatment the final will blow up on us. But I am worry about the gear would be too short. AP1 S2000 3rd gear stock can hit 148-150km/h. After I did 4.7 drop to around 125. And speedo is another issue, for S2000 we could order yellow box to adjust the speedo, nothing for this car yet.

For people wondering about mpg, around town it shouldn't change much if you aim for the same revs and load, on the highway the mpg drop should be about half the gear ratio change. So going down to 3.727 gears is maybe 5% increase in fuel economy, going up to 4.5 is maybe 5% decrease, and this extrapolates pretty well. Last edited by serialk11r; 11-15-2012 at 04:28 AM. |

I would personally find bolt on mods that can add about 10-20 lb ft of torque before adding this. I feel the combination will feel significant enough for a daily driver. I rather do this than go F/I and have to worry about the long term effects.

AT folks might get a problem, since the TCM will monitor the speed of the vehicle and gives you the proper gear. But with final drive install the gear would be a lot shorter, the TCM might not know how to react due to the value is out of its preset range.

There are a number of JDM tuners who have come out with final drives as well.

Definitely DIY-able. It's more involved than many DIYs but it's not that hard.
Install prices, like the other poster mentioned, should be around $300. An old ITR Expo sponsor sells MFactory so I did get some info from him: -FDs are forged from SAE8620 steel and should be good for at least 300whp. MSRP $749.95. Ratios 4.5 and 4.7 as already stated. -Other Ratios are possible, but a close gear set may come first (6MT only) -Helical LSD is forged from SAE 4320 steel, rated for 1,000whp. MSRP $684.95 -Meta-Plate LSD is also SAE4320, but rated for 500whp. Available in 1.0, 1.0/1.5 and 2.0. Adj for pre-load and lock up. MSRP $899.95.

$750 seems really high for a ring and pinion to me compared to other platforms where i've looked at them.
