Well.. I plan on keeping it pretty stock.. maybe roll bars, coilovers, and MAYBE an open exhaust... after warranty's up.

May I ask how a 2.0L NA engine could benefit from a 2.5" exhaust or larger?

I thought back pressure would be excessive after 2.5" and cause a drop in performance? This is just what I've heard, I really should research to make sure I'm not folly on info...
I mean, stock 6.0L Turbo Diesel's have 3.0" exhausts...

Instruct me please!

I don't plan on this being N/A. If it doesn't come with a factory turbo, I'm puttin one on it.

and then a larger exhaust would be necessary -- as Turbo's are spooled from exhausts.
How large would be acceptable / required for a 2.0T?

with turbos, the bigger the better.

n/a will suffer somewhat from too large of an exhaust piping diameter. as piping diameter increases, backpressure decreases. backpressure is NEVER sought after; only exhaust velocity, which has the unfortunate side effect of backpressure. it's the low-rpm port velocity produced by smaller-diameter exhausts that helps to create nice torque curves, not the associated backpressure.

that's the reason why people generally (and mistakenly) think that backpressure is good for n/a engines. that's why on anything except a race car, you don't want to go too large with an n/a exhaust.

Benefit of back pressure in an NA setup?

I just read (found a post about different exhausts setups eg, True Dual vs Crossover VS Single) about crossover exhausts and those seem to benefit a motor slightly, and making the exhaust note a little milder and to me, nicer.

I thought 0 back pressure was good, so there was no resistance or disturbance in the exhaust flow (velocity)?

Im happy you explained this a little for me. Could you give examples? Like proposed max size of the NA 2.0L FT-86 motor?

This beauty will replace my DD Celica, as far as anything else I rather keep it spontaneous and work on what needs to as I determine what needs to be upgraded to suit my preferences
