Trust me, if there was any chance for me to get the car I wanted at MSRP in NorCal, I'd take it.
I was looking for cars out of state. Even 2nd row of states. I even almost boarded a plane to a different state, but got a call from the dealership that someone already secured that car.

I got my car for MSRP+$888 in March. The dealership experience was 5/5.
My friend was looking for the exact same spec and I was trying to help him find one for MSRP. We gave up in July.
In other words, had I skipped "my" car in March, I would wait for at least a few months and still not get the car.

BRZ is a different market.
