Except the first gens had no extra perks, so they made no sense to cost more than the simlarly equipped BRZ...in fact the BRZ sport tech RS had the sachs/brembo combo and cost less. At least the second gen will have some perk if what you say is true.

If this is true, it is an interesting strategy to charge customers a premium for a feature they don't know they're getting. Announcing the GR brand in Canada alongside the pricing press release would have at least somewhat explained the price premium compared to their nearly identical competitor.

I'm sure there are some people that will jump ship to Subaru who would otherwise have taken advantage of the extra perks and would have stuck with the Toyota had they known.

Did your buddy give any indication on time-frame?

April. I'm actually working with him regarding at least a Gazoo Racing contingency plan.

People are also forgetting that Scion in USA and Canada had a contingency program as well when the first gens launched.

FYI for Canadian folks looking to pre-order.

I just exchanged a few emails with the local dealer about a pre-order.

They require a $3K non-refundable deposit for cars that likely won't be available until spring.

I specifically asked if they would come down to the BRZ price or better and got a hard no.

I replied with my own hard no to that. I can wait.

I'm confused with this part... if you wait, you get discount?

I'm $1k on my deposit and am waiting an allocation assuming its MSRP price on the record of sale. If they even hike it up a $1, I'm bailing and going to Subaru.

I took it to mean that they would only sell pre-orders at MSRP.

Given that the deposit is non-refundable that was a non-starter for me.

Damn, I just went onto the Subaru site to contact a dealer and they are offering a $500 Holiday Bonus discount on the price right now!

And a final update in the GR86 sub-forum, it looks like I'm going in tomorrow to secure my BRZ.

6-8 week lead time apparently.

I was actually set on Neptune blue GR86 but looks like this price differential which is substantial and this $500 holiday discount...the Subaru WRB BRZ is more enticing. I could just get a GR86 bumper if need be.

Now I want to see how much they'd want my 2014 Monogram for. Going to check with my contacts to see which Subaru dealer is worth working with.

I don't feel great paying 2k more than the BRZ. Slim chance, but maybe Toyota will adjust pricing to match in next little while.
