I'll have to agree with Jordanwolf (this time), those tail lights look to me like something that came off of a 1953 Ford. -

There is really only one production tail light style that I think is ridiculous.

Who the hell thought these monstrosities up?

I wonder if the X's are a play on the 4x4 capabilities.

I hated the tail lights before the 17 refresh. They looked like cheap aftermarket lights (like the old aftermarket 'altezza style' lights on every riced out civic from the 90s), but from the factory and I think made the whole car look and feel much junkier than it is. The new ones (17+) look very appropriate and while there are some neat aftermarket lights, they all look very gimmicky compared to the stock ones. Ferrari tail lights look great on a ferrari, but if you try to make a brz/86 look like a ferrari it ends up giving off the old fiero ferrari kit car vibe.
I'm in a bad mood this morning and taking it out on tail lights...

I have the total opposite view of the taillights. I think the first ones were basic and simple, flowed with the body and suited the intent of the car. The new ones look like big neon signs and come across as pretending the car is something it isn't. They look more aftermarket than some of the aftermarket ones do.
