I initially did not tie in the VSS or handbrake wire and just the reverse signal wire and the back up camera still worked, my car did not have oem navigation either. On the 2017 86, there is a 24 pin harness with only four wires on it for the back up camera. I assume the BRZ is different. Only thing I can think of is make sure the power and video both have + and -. Make sure they are not reversed? Yes I’m using the T01 harness

Idatalink suggested that I connect the camera to 12 volt for just a moment to rule out a voltage issue and sure enough the camera turned on. So it seems that the 5 volt reading from the RR that I found is the issue after all, we’ll see what they can do to correct this. After I get this voltage issue sorted, I’ll finally be done with this installation. The only thing that I haven’t tested is the aux port... which should work fine, but I’ll honestly probably never use it anyway.
Edit: idatalink ended up saying it will be fine to connect the camera to 12 volt accessory power... that sounds like a bad idea so I guess I’ll either have to use a step down converter or hardwire the whole bleepin thing. What a PITA this Maestro RR setup is... Last edited by NCtoBRZ; 04-03-2018 at 10:58 AM. |

I ended up using a DROK 12v to 6v converter for the camera power and the 12v source is connected to the reverse wire from the head unit so that it only powers up the camera when in reverse (rather than it constantly being powered as the RR would have powered it if it actually put out 6 volts as it should have). So everything is finally working as I wanted it to and I’m done with this install! The Maestro gauges not only show the expected stuff like engine load, water temp, etc. but they also show tire pressure and temperatures at all 4 wheels and there is a “track pack” of gauges that measure 0-60, 1/4 mile, braking distance, etc.
In summary, the RR and T01 harness CAN work with the 17 BRZ, you just have to add some pins to the 28 pin connector and good luck getting 6 volts from the camera power wire on the T01 harness. A hardwired connection is another option as pictured earlier in this thread. The 17 BRZ flash for the RR works 100% for all of the steering wheel buttons and you can program extra functions for each button... I programmed a long press of the source button to display the gauges. I’ll try to help out with any questions for those who are interested in a similar installation. |

Glad all worked out for you. Do share some pics of the gauges!. Also, the Maestro RR only works with certain units correct?

It was a bit of a pain getting everything going with the RR since idatalink's knowledge of the 2017 BRZ is lacking and they don't care to make a new 28 pin harness for this vehicle, but I'm glad I stuck with it as it does everything that I wanted. |

Just a quick update. The performance/track gauges for the Maestro are currently non-functional, Idatalink said that they are working on this and there should be a firmware update soon to address this issue.

Nice setup! I’m gonna be doing this soon on my 2016 BRZ but with the Pioneer AVH-2440NEX instead. Apparently Pioneer discontinued the 2330 and replaced it with the 2440 by the time I got around to buying one.

Yeah I bought the 2330 on sale just as they were phasing it out for the 2440. Apparently they are the same model, just with a new model number for a new year of production or something to that effect. With Android Auto and the OEM armrest I’ve addressed the only 2 things that I didn’t like about this car and planned on upgrading since day one.

I saw a review on Crutchfield that said the 2440 “provides 1.5a on the USB port instead of 1.0a that the 2330 did” so hopefully this will give my phone a slightly better charge on long trips when it’s connected to CarPlay.

Ahhh cool. My Samsung S9+ charges up fine from the 2330 even with Google maps and Pandora both running on Android Auto, but a little extra amperage is good.

I'm probably too late for you but just ran across this researching HU for my '17 BRZ. Pioneer discontinued the backup camera guidelines after 2017 models so the 2400/2440 won't have those guidelines, whereas the 2300/2330 will. I use those all the time so will be going with the 2330. (And I can pester NCtoBRZ for help )
