I think with this car we'll have to go through software updates quite often. In my previous car software updates were done at almost every regular service for the first two years.

If there is a mechanical problem though, twe might be screwed. But then I expect Subaru and Toyota to increase length of warranty on engine. Again I wenth through this with my old car, and it was upped from 50000 miles to 100000. I got a new engine for it under warranty. This is not as bad as it sounds.

I've had this issue once every ~6 months on my 06 scion tc for the past 80,000 miles. Its never stalled on me, and i was never worried about it enough to have it checked. I'm curious to see if a fix is found.

Keep me posted, as a fellow Oregon driver I've seen the samething on my BRZ I just don't care, don't see it as a problem.

no CEL, no stalling .. but it's enraging and when the car is doing this I have noticed there is a power loss.

I drove a 2012 TC as a loaner while my FR-S was waiting for an ECU. I know it's a different engine, but I noticed the TC had idle dip too. However unlike the FR-S, I didn't feel the engine shudder like it was going to stall and the RPM recovered quickly. So it's not so much the idle dip itself, but how the car feels when it does that. There are many times I have been driving my FR-S and the engine 'feels' like it is going to stall. It's very distracting. Sometimes I almost think it has stalled, but then I look at the tach and see 'oh it's still running'.

My FRS used to do this too.
I just changed my stock air filter to K&N drop in filter about three days ago and I haven't seen any fluctuation yet. I know it is too early to tell so I will follow up if anything happens.

This RPM fluctuation issue can be quite serious.
My 05 mustang used to do this and eventually it stalled on me couple times at stop light and it even happened once while I was driving on highway (i had to slow down so I popped into neutral and the car stalled. The scary part was the steering was locked too). So I took my mustang into the dealer numerous times and they changed MAF sensor, the whole intakes and everything but they couldnt fix it.

Just turned 3600 miles on my BRZ, picked it up on Sept. 13. Since about the second week of owning the car it would occasionally drop to 400 rpm then bounce up to 1000 sitting at a traffic light. Its been doing it more often lately and when it dips the engine runs rougher than back in early October. I am hoping I am not heading heading for a CEL.

My question is has anyone else noticed a change in the idle dip behavior as they put more miles on their car?

The idle RPM still fluctuates here a little bit from time to time AFTER the CEL fix. But it never feels like its going to stall because the ECU corrects the situation quickly.
I always have the blower fan running though (foggy windows) and I know that puts some load on the engine.

I'm starting to believe it's just a feature of the engine management system.
It's too common to be an isolated issue. Just look at the number of reports in this forum alone..

I just got my first oil change done and also got better quality gas than what I usually get locally. I'm going to check if anything changes.
