FR-S & Your Honest Thoughts!

So I have been reading these forums for the last few weeks/month or so, firstly I am a massive Toyota/Lexus fan. My first car I bought in the Toyota division was the NA Toyota Supra... my first impressions when looking at the car and the cockpit was "this looks like a joke", upon driving the car I felt a lot different... was an immediate wow.

3 years after my initial purchase I went for a twin turbo edition of the Toyota Supra... without doing my research I bought the first car I looked at, fresh import, no compliance etc - I ended up getting her complianced and roadworthy... I have now had this car for 3 years now & it's been my pride an joy, I have taken her off the road & am now pushing the engine to 750HP in sequential mode (two larger turbos with a completely built head/bottom end and new fuel system and supporting mods).

Now I simply cannot drive this car on the roads after my project has been completed, ill get snapped up pretty quick by the cops in my country as they are pretty relentless and picky about cars and mods (especially from my state), so I went on the lookout for a new Toyota that I could drive on the roads but at the same time have fun with it, I cam across the SCION!

Now I know there are some massive fans out there so please don't take my post offensive:

Design: There really improving the design with each mark up, eg MK1 felt a little too old school, MK2 started improving with the more modern look, MK3 is nice kiss on the butt (I am loving it). There is really nothing more to say, I think those people who are familiar with CF and molding will be able to make some great looking features for these cars.

Engine: I am actually disgusted that Subaru are taking part in making the engine, its a massive turn off to me. So I compared the basic statistics of my car which keep in mind is 15 years old...

Non turbo supra (GE) - 220HP (164 kW)
Twin Turbo (GTE) - 276HP (206 kW) -- my car out of factory.

Now lets look at the assumed figured for the scion...
200hp on there base model which is an NA V6, I see this as a good figure, although it should really be built for more - 15 years after the Toyota Supra was deployed I cannot see why the have downgraded the power levels?

They need to make a twin turbo model, I think they will surprise the market with a sports edition or a TRD edition --- this is something that I would love to see and it is also something that I would buy!

Driveline: 6 speed in a 200HP vehicle? I see this as a total waste! other then that waiting for further info until we can see the exact driveline specifics!

Pricing:
Cannot really comment on pricing as of yet as there has been no set figure in the market, the 370Z in Australia is worth approximately 60 - 70K brand new from what I recall (I may be wrong), so I think the FR-S will be around the 40 - 50 margin.

Step 1: Do more research about: a) this car and b) cars in general
Step 2: Then post.

--->someguy: The effort is valiant, however your projection of what you think the car should be is really clear; you're looking for a new Supra. It's been hammered home time after time by Toyota's executives that the FR-S will be a spiritual successor to the AE-86. This means the car will not be a GT like your Supra, it will be a small, light, low-power "momentum" sports car like the Miata. It's not going to have big power, and that's the point.

Its mine no matter what!!!

First, I wanna say thanks to everyone for their opinions & info on the FR-S! I'm sure just like anyone here, I can't wait for the car to actually be availible & w the exact specs & etc. Hopefully the body remains the same as the concept. No matter what I wanna get it & finally get my first RWD car. Plus I'm a Toyota/ Scion fan for a long time. Personalization will be done to any vehicle & I will make sure my FR-S is up to my standards. I also will make sure to throw a turbo on it asap when its availible. So good luck to everyone & hope to see everyone w their brand new FR-S pics!
