BRZ felt more mature to me. Wasn't a fan of the styling/front end of FRS/86. It screamed immature for some reason.

So the styling for BRZ was the main choice. Plus it had more options. AND also the fact that I been a subaru person... this is my 4th subaru. Started from wrx back in 06... then 01 RS coupe to 04 Forester... now my brz.

I think the base FRS is a fine choice and extremely practical purchase. At the top end, aside from the toyota exclusive colors like Tcoat has, the BRZ is now the obvious choice as the interior is beautiful in my car. The PP addon was well worth it for my mountainous vacationing i like to do once a month.

One cannot go wrong with either model or company. Both take their business and customers seriously.

Chris Harris driving the dog shit out of one in Spain.

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=romf-G6CZ7g"]The Toyota FT-86, GT-86, Scion FRS - /CHRIS HARRIS ON CARS - YouTube[/ame]

Other cars I've considered....

Mustang GT, Camaro SS, Challenger Scat pack: The power is tempting, but at this point of my life I'd be reaching financially to afford it and the gas/insurance.

WRX STI, GTI, Focus RS and Civic Type R: Have plenty of time to get a 4 door. This will be my last chance to get a sports car before additional responsibilities arise in my life.

Miata, 124 Abarth and S2000: Very fun but I like that the BRZ/86 has more practicability while still being small and light.

I chose the BRZ over the Fr-s because I thought it was the more "grown-up" version of the twins. I had an s2k and miata, but preferred something a little bigger with the same light weight and fun-to-drive dynamics. I also prefer a RWD, manual car. It is not my daily driver (2017 Tacoma), so it sits at home when it rains or snows. I am going to keep it 100% stock, because in 15+ years those are the cars everyone oogles over and covets. No one wants a riced-out S2k now, they all admire the bone stock ones. I plan on keeping this car forever. I am not keeping it stock for the intention of selling it, either. I just admire it as-is.

I remember very clearly the first time I saw one of these. It was a BRZ in WRB, parked outside the Asian restaurant I was getting lunch at. At the time, it was the most different looking thing out there. Everything was so striking about it. I remember my impression of the taillights, and how sporty I thought they looked. I was in high school, so I didn't have the income to run out and buy one.

After graduating both high school and college about 4 years later, and landing a great job, I was in the market for a new car, and I knew exactly what I wanted. I ended up buying the one I have now in the dead of night, without ever test driving it. Didn't know how to drive a manual at the time, so I called my father up to drive it home for me. Best purchase ever. It has brought me nothing but fun, friends, and smiles since.

Current owner of FRS, bought new just three years ago yesterday. Now has 51,400 miles on it.

1. Wanted something really fun to drive...must have manual trans and within my budget. (Sorry Porsche Cayman). Looks of the car not a priority.

2. Wanted something with a warranty (which leaves out a used Lotus).

3. Not interested in a convertible. Not interested in a car with a lot of power...Already have a V-8 Mustang.

4. >>Got lots of help, recommendations once I discovered this forum...way before actually buying a car.<<

5. First time I sat in an 86 body I was hooked. The car literally fits my body like no other car I've ever owned (owned about 60 everyday cars before this one).

I'm a long-time track junkie, and was looking for a good combination DD/track car combo, since the WRX I bought less than 8 months earlier was a letdown.

Most of the car's positive attributes have already been mentioned, but I'll add that it's easy to maintain, and I love having a non-staggered wheel setup to enable tire rotations and balance out wear.

So far, I love it!

Chris Harris saying he loved it :P

I went and tried one: tiny steering wheel, light, liked corners, good brake pedal. Didn't feel as slow as I expected it to feel.

Also, everything else I was considering came up short: 997s were about ten grand out of my price range at the time, I couldn't deal with the impracticality of a Cayman or Lotus Elise, I knew I'd land myself in jail if I bought myself a 135i, and I didn't want to deal with the mechanical eccentricities of E46-gen 3-series machines. The BRZ offered the driver's car experience I wanted without headaches and on an appropriate budget.

This one was fun, but he drifts the shit out of everything. The video that got met to test drive one was his subsequent mashup of the 86, Cayman, and 370Z. I still think Chris and Nino Karotta did the two best reviews of these cars.

I wanted a BRZ for years but was too young and not making enough to afford a brand new car. When the time came to buy my first car I wanted a coupe and something sporty. I still wanted a BRZ but they were too expensive for me at the time, almost got an FRS but then discovered rust on it. Got a better job a few years later and although I loved the 350z I ended up with, I knew deep down I still wanted a BRZ.

Took the Z to Carmax to get an offer and shop around to other dealers with that and when I went in I saw the CWP Series.Blue that had just arrived on the lot and I had to have it.

Sexiest car ever made imo, turns heads everywhere I go. Great mileage and probably one of the best cars to drive making it the complete package.

80% of a Porsche at 20% of the cost. Feels like a go-kart - best steering feel unless you spend big bucks. For me with the AT - 33mpg even when getting on it. Already have a more practical car in my 04 WRX wagon.

I needed something to replace my TDI when VW bought it back. These have good driving dynamics and are generally fun, and they come used in like-new condition for the price of a fit/yaris/other basic economy car. They also look awesome I cross shopped it with a Chevy SS, C6 Corvette, and a Cayman S. The deciding factor was the price difference, plus my state's rather hefty annual property tax on said price difference. It just couldn't bring myself to shovel huge sums of tax money down the toilet (yes, my state is a toilet) when there was a perfectly good car available for much cheaper. The only thing I wanted that I was missing out on is speed and that can be remedied via the aftermarket.
