And they're certainly not cheap (currently $700 on sale on TireRack). Try out a set of <$400 >400TW all seasons, now those are cheapo commuting tires. Hell there are no less than a dozen tires you can order on TireRack right now for less than half the price of a set of Michelin Primacy HP's. Trying to be fast without good tires is pointless, all you'll do is make a lot of noise and at best entertain yourself.

Great tires, stock suspension, and a good driver will outrun big fat tires (even with the same tire compound) and a >$4k suspension with a mediocre driver all day long. I know, I've been the latter car.

I have BF Goodrich Gforce sport comp2, 235 front n 265 rear. $800ish. Rims were cheap, XXR 530s around $500ish. Pretty decent tire so far for the price. Much stickier than stock.

For a guy wanting to "beat" a stock Mustang GT or GTR, I don't think he was referring to beating them around the Nurburgring. Probably rolling races around town or on the highway. For some basic price quotes, those figures are fine.
