My BRZ is my only car, but I commute using mass transit. Wish I could drive to work, but thats kinda impossible in NYC.

If I had to use a car for commuting every day, I'd probably get a different car just because I wanna preserve my BRZ haha.

This car isnt real practical but it'll still work for the odd times you need to carry a lot of cargo or people. Picked up my mother at the airport last night with my gf and dog. They all fit in the car + a large suitcase and a box.

Also fit a 6ft christmas tree in the car before with my gf and dog as well.

Sadly it was dark out by the time I got back and I forgot to take a picture before hand

But it definitely fits with the back seat down, tree placed in diagonally. GF in front passenger seat and my dog next to the tree.

Measure it out, theres 6ft of diagonal space if you fold down the back seat.

that's pretty amazing. I took a folding measuring stick with me to a toyota dealer and checked out all of the dimensions folded or upright of things I could fit. It can fit even longer than six feet in length, a little bit, on the diagonal without moving up the seat.

I always enjoy your soft, depressed bear avatar whenever i see it.

It's worked okay as my only daily driver for nearly five years. Had a '98 Tacoma ( 2.4L 5-speed manual extended cab) when I first picked it up in 2012, but stopped driving it after getting the FR-S and then after sitting around in the driveway for a long while I sold it to a coworker. Had to make a few changes to get the FR-S acceptable as an only car daily driver for me, mainly better tires but also different drivers seat - absolutely hate the stock seat. After the seat change it has been a joy to drive for these past few years. Guess what though, the FR-S will be fully payed off in the next few months and then going through the process of changing into a more track focused car, but still a street legal daily driver alternative capable vehicle.

I just picked up my new vehicle I had been thinking of for a while now and finally really researched and bought, and it's another truck. Not a weeny 4-cylinder though... its a 2013 Nissan Frontier King Cab, V6, 6-spd manual, 2WD, SV Spec, and had to travel to North Carolina to get it and drive it back 1400+ miles (because it was only 1 of 2 that I saw for sale optioned like I wanted and within budget within the entire continental US). My vehicle solution I think will always be a sports/performance car and a truck. Sportscar for track and sometimes daily driver fun and truck for all weather comfortable daily driver, car/ house project hauler, and light offroad/prerunner fun. One vehicle was okay, but much prefer to have at least 2 at any given time. The past 4 years with the FR-S were the first time I've ever had 1 vehicle to rely on for everything.

Another fine choice of a small truck we will never see again.

This is the idea of a small truck now?

that bubbly pile of feces.

I want a small cab, i dont care about passengers, a diesel 4 cylinder or a gasoline 4 cylinder, and the largest bed possible. I don't want 4 wheel drive even, take it if it comes with it. My favorite cars are the early 90's toyota 4 cylinder with short cabs. All beaten and rusted to death by now im guessing. I just want to haul furniture and cats. Sometimes a tv. Bed size and fuel economy would be what I want from such a thing. That diesel VW pickup would be awesome.

i know you wanted viewpoints from only one vehicle folks, but as someone with another dd i might be able to add some insight.

the most difficult part about the twins in regards to being a daily probably isnt exactly the space. yes its small but as most folks have pointed out with seats down theres a decent amount of room. the actual thing that you have to be okay with is this: it starts off as a car thats 'on knife's edge', direction changes and the buffering of the suspension are very immediate and very upfront. and once you start to mod it only get 'twitchier' in handling, steering or power - however you decide to go.

and this all is wonderful on your pleasurable drives, on country roads, or canyon roads or hell, even on highway ramps. but most peoples everyday drive includes grooved pavement, slow and crowded highways with expansion joints and lots of other things that start to feel more chore than fun. ditto with the sounds, great if youre driving for fun and want to hear and feel everything but it gets a little loud when youre just trying to get to work for 45 mins.

if you can deal with a rougher ride with more noise than a luxury car or even most econoboxes would emit, are ok with having to really pay attention during your whole drive through that and dont need to get directly into the backseat often (aka kids or dogs) then its doable. but if you have the option to drive anything else to get those boring miles out of the way you appreciate what it brings to the table even more.

I see roughly 3+ on my commute everyday, different every time.

My commute is <10 miles roundtrip. All depends on where you live.

Hyundai seems to be seriously considering building something like that. Bed deosn't look too big, but it might hit the rest of the checkboxes.

did you plug up the sound tube and keep exhaust stock? It measured more quiet than a 2017 mazda3 GT on rough road and regular highway on my decibel meter. Also was out of talking range, the noise, it was very high vs most cars which disturb talking range. Very few cars are more quiet for its size than a 2017 AT I tested on crappy NJ roads. I also did a analog watch test. Only two of five cars I was interested in fully passed it. The BRZ and the Legacy, the rest of the nicer cars supposedly quieter failed. Watch test is when I am wearing the watch and the passenger and I can hear it tick loudly while holding 50 mph and idling. I plugged up the sound hole on the test drive.

I duno. Maybe something changed in 2017.

aside from a smallish bed, that is something I would consider. Really nice. Hyundai is a great brand now, finally. NIce find. I guess I would deal with the smaller bed if the car was cheap and had good mpg etc.

When I'm on some highways I can hear the road and wind noise over my loud 3" aftermarket exhaust lol. Its no joke. And the ride definitely isnt as comfortable as a typical commuter or luxury car.

....but it's not supposed to be. It's a bare bones sports car. It's supposed to handle well, which usually means a harsh ride. If a person wants some sporty performance and luxury coddling/road absorbing ride/interiors isolated from the outside world, Lexus is usually just across the showroom floor from the 86.
