I'll be honest, it's not immediately awful looking - but that's at first glance and only because of the wide-body kit on the example you've chosen. I don't think they'd work on a stock 86. I guess you'd also need to have a split so the three innermost lights lifted with the trunk lid while the outermost was stationary.

Tell that to OP when he solicited opinions on his idea of a "Supra but not really a Supra and not really paying for a Supra" conversion idea.

But I like the design of the supra lights, and you totally have my approval in this theoretical - massive re sculpting project that will cost as much as the new Supra (I assume). ![]() |

FA20 w/ Transmission 480 lbs. 2JZ w/ Transmission 746 lbs. The FRS with 200 hp 2.0L H4 FA20 weighs ~ 2800 lbs. Power/weight ratio: 13.8 lbs. per hp. FRS with a 325hp 3.0L inline 6 2JZ-GTE weighs ~3000 lbs. Power/weight ratio: 9.2 lbs. per hp. Is a 3000 lb. 2JZ FRS still considered light? Well compared to other 6 cylinder platforms, yes. They're still 300 lbs. lighter than 370zs, 5-600 lbs. lighter than Supras & EVOs (4cyl), and about 900 lbs. lighter than GTRs. Power to weight Ratios: -------------------------- 1966 Shelby Cobra 5 lbs/hp Chevy Corvette Z06 5.5 lbs/hp Nissan GTR 7.0 lbs/hp (AWD) BMW M3 8.0 lbs/hp Chevy Camaro SS 8.1 lbs/hp Dodge Challenger STR8 8.8 lbs/hp **Toyota 86/FRS (2JZ) 9.2 lbs/hp** Nissan 370z Nismo 9.7 lbs/hp Ford Focus RS 9.9 lbs/hp (AWD) Toyota Supra 10.6 lbs/hp Subaru STI 11.3 lbs/hp (AWD) Mitsubishi EVO VIII 11.8 lbs/hp (AWD) Honda S2000 11.9 lbs/hp Mitsubishi Eclipse GST 13.7 lbs/hp Toyota 86/FRS 13.8 lbs/hp Honda Civic Si 14.1 lbs/hp Mazda Miata 15 lbs/hp Nissan 240sx 18.1 lbs/hp Honda CR-Z 20.4 lbs/hp Say what you want, but the money spent on a swap that puts an FRS smack dab between a Challenger SRT8 and 370z nismo with a STOCK 2JZ, is impressive enough. But keeping in mind that the 2JZ is a stock motor and can easily be upgraded and tuned to 450 whp with very little work/$ coupled with the fact that, that amount of hp is not even pushing the limits of the 2JZ (like an FA20 would be) makes it a very reliable range for a potential daily. Hell, a 2JZ 86/FRS @ 450 rwhp (523 crank) puts it at 5.7 lbs/hp.. right in between the 66 Shelby Cobra and 2017 Z06. Well worth the money for a fast car that's light and fun to drive. And for the record, anyone who wants to suggest how much money this is going to cost, please understand I'm not some teenager on a budget. I'm a 30 year old single man with no kids with a decent job/income. Expensive is relative to your income. Besides, this would be a project car because building cars is a hobby of mine. I have 8 years of experience as a weapons engineer, a garage to work on things, with all the tools I need, and the internet for a resource. I'll be alright. ![]() Last edited by VAcuban; 06-14-2017 at 01:42 PM. Reason: clarification |
