Not a single post about how they ditched macpherson struts for this car, that's big, first road going 911 to have wishbones up front.
Not at all surprised it's quicker, better rear wing design + ditching the struts, stiffer chassis. Even if they built the exact same car tire tech is advancing every 3-4 years to totally obsolete what came before, tweak the springs and dampers and alignment and voila, odds are you've made a quicker car. Tire options will be new CUP2 and CUP2R which is what the 991.2 GT3RS had on when it clocked its run. More carbon as well. Lucky enough to own a ‘19 gt3rs and this causes some serious envy. May hold off til the 992.2 release is made. Hearing a 4.2L could be in store. |

I’m torn between liking the smaller and simpler older models, which seem more analog like the 86 to the weight, looks and width of the new 992. Yes, the larger 992 is lighter than the 991, which is larger, yet lighter, than the 997. The crazy thing is just how much tech they shoved into these cars from active roll bars to active diffs, active suspension, four wheel steer, dynamic steering ratio, cooling, ducting, etc. Watching the detail in this video makes you impressed, but also makes someone fear owning and working on one of these themselves. I know it might be lighter, but carrying around all that extra stuff seems heavy and unnecessary, even if it does “improve” things.

The car is actually light for a midsize GT car. It's not a Mustang GT350

99% of the people that buy those won’t ever put it on a track and then that 1% won’t even make it to the first corner without being totally freaked out because they’re just going so damn fast.
Besides all that props to anyone that can afford and appreciate a car like that. Last edited by TommyW; 04-22-2021 at 09:27 AM. |

I need to drive one of these things. There aren't many cars I say that about, but I really want to check this thing out in detail. I love GT3s/RSes.
