If so, just put the registration number in and press ok. After I did that I got a 3000 hr "license". Still useless with the cable drivers but I'm looking into sourcing a Windows XP laptop just for this.

Seems everyone is using the cable from China...I gotta say, I'd rather not order from China. Any US sources for the cable?
Would this cable work? [ame="http://www.amazon.com/OBD2-Diagnostic-Cable-KKL409-1-VAG-COM/dp/B002WIN8VQ"]OBD2 OBD II Diagnostic USB Cable For KKL409.1 VAG-COM 409 : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame] Apologies, but I'm a noob when it comes to OBD2 stuff. |

Cheap ebay cable works fine. I've been using this nearly since I got the car last July. All my laptops are win7 64bit so I just run xp mode and install the software in the vm. You can use any vm software, and then just find a copy of win xp if you don't already have one.

The ARM Processor is 32 bits on the MINI VCI 16Pin J2534 Cable
If I understand it correctly, no software fix will make the J2534\USB cable connector work on 64 bit. The hardware processor (the big central black chip welded onto the J2534 board) is 32 bit.
So, I doubt that there will be a 64 bit drivers for that hardware. Please correct me if my understanding is inaccurate - thanks. |

My point was that waiting for a 64 bit software to work on the 32 bit ARM processor that is embedded onto the hardware is very doubtful. The hurdle is the 32 bit hardware not the lack of a 64 bit software. |

This goes to show the mini vci was just a workaround from the beginning. As the actual hardware required to run the software, that the dealers use, is several thousand dollars. So yes, a VM running XP will work but that wasn't the reason this thread was created as it ran on XP using older versions.
