If you go out on a non-event day, I suppose you could do whatever. This was an event that I registered for. It doesn't look like registration is up yet. The events were in January, February, and March.

The rivals had the best wear/grip ratio I have had in the new age 200tw tires.

Im at around half tread on my RE71, and need to flip them. I don't DD them either. Roughly 1k street. 4 HPDE and 12 autox events.

Ant particular reason you choose those over the ZII star specs?

The RE71, better tire grip wise. I also have some Z2s for daily use.

The ZII star specs ended up being a bit harder than I think people anticipated. I bought them too early in the year. I beat them up good, but they're alive for next season. So they'll last me two seasons, but with much less grip than the RE71.

As mentioned, the ZII* are probably nice DD tires.

They make great tires for track/autox use as well. I got some for dirty cheap, so I couldn't say no. Just make sure to store them in a warm climate or they will hate life.

This would seem to contradict what we both just said. We were comparing them to the RE71 and we both seemed to agree the RE71 were better. Also, from my post - I have already been using them for that purpose (Track/Autox); so I'm confused about the suggestion. I would have rather had the RE71, but I bought too early and I'm not of the budget to just buy another set; in fact they'll have to last two seasons.

ZII* for dd? No way. Supposedly super loud and uncomfortable for normal driving. They performed quite a bit better in an overall range than rivals and all other tested 200 wear extreme performance tires.

I'd recommend bfg sport comp 2's for aggressive dd tires.

Yes, I think we are mostly in agreement.
RE71 = More Grip/Better Racing use. Can be a peaky tire/overheated.
Rival S = Between Z2SS and RE71 , sucks in the wet. Slightly better wear than the RE71
Z2SS = Less Grip overall grip, still great tire for autox/track. Better tire for DD or ocasional "high performance driving" than a RE71. They also handle heat better.
Rival = Wears like Iron, great with heat. Sucks in the wet.

As far as my original question I was kind of only asking with reference to a 200tw tire. Being that was the min allowable in the events I ran this season and I dont have any plans to venture outside of that next season.
But your last post, John, was kind of what I saw a lot of after posting;

Dry only? Rival

Chance of wet? ZII*

As far as I would be concerned I guess I would go with the ZII* for dedicated track tire for the events I will likely run next season.
I'd like to get a set of semi-fancy/cheap DD wheels to put my used sport comp 2's on.

(If anyone has anything to get rid of in the 8/8.5x17+35 area, let me know)

I ran my old ZII non ss as DD tires. And had ZIIss for dedicated track tires. But, I ran my ZIIss on the street for about 3 weeks and it was so much fun lol. Grip forevevr on the street.
