I mean its got the same shape and all as the FT1 but it looks like its somewhat 'squashed' looking. mo the FT1 was proportioned properly, the same shape doesn't work exactly well on a shortened platform....

could just be the video angles though, i'll need to see official pictures.

I'll save my final opinion for when I see it in person, but I think the Zenki 86 looks better in terms of overall design.

Full respect given. For Supra and FT86, same-price Camaro 1LE will be faster in a straight line and at just about any road course. I've also said I think they are "cool". But they are *not for me*.
I know what I like well enough to know that size and weight are critical factors *for me*.

The right comparison would be something like the marquee Porsche cars (Carrerra GT, 918).
Porsche is not selling those cars now. Their top performance car is the GT2 RS. Base 911 doesn't detract from that car (or my preferred GT3 RS) on iota, not to me anyway...

Something top tier and exclusive.
Personally, I don't get "enthusiasts" who feel like their car has to be "exclusive", and don't want to see another one driving down the street ever.
When I had my 240Z, I would see more Ferraris and McLarens and Lamborghinis on the road than other 240Zs, but when I *did* see one I freaking loved it. Ditto with the FD. I can't imagine driving a cool rare car and having a *negative* reaction when seeing another one on the road! That type of "enthusiast", is not my kind of car guy...

Originally (obviously incorrectly) this car was kind of hyped that it would be an NSX / GTR competitor, its just slowly been making its way down the ladder to where it seems like it will be now less of a premier option.
I say *thank God* it's not another overwrought uber/ultra/megacar. My preference is that they keep it small, keep it simple.

Not sure I understand the philosophical side of this. What is wrong with starting with a higher performing base?
Nothing. What is wrong is starting with an oversized and overweight platform. Then you have to add gobs of power, enormous wheels/tires and brakes, etc. Better to start with as small and lightweight a package as you can. GM went with the smallest, lightest rwd platform they could, which is a luxury sedan. So the Camaro is a big heavy 2-door "coupe" with a high cowl because it is based on a luxury sedan platform. Not exactly ideal... I'd be a lot more interested if it were closer in size/proportion to 4th gen.

I always read about this debate with bikes too.... like people recommended starting with a 250. I never understood that. I (personally) started with a bigger bike and learned throttle control and braking pretty quickly and then I grew in to what I had. Same thing with cars, really.
Well, having raced a 400cc bike against 600s and 750s and even 1000s, my preference is in the middle to lower-displacement range and smaller bikes. I've owned a 1000cc Aprilia Tuono FWIW, but honestly prefered my old SV650... 250cc isn't much to propel a full-sized human, but around town could be fun. Honestly a 390 Duke is one of the most fun bikes out there! If I had to buy a new bike now, probably Street Triple or R6. Not too interested in the liter-bikes. Would be interested in an R4 though!

I'm with you on this. The only way to get an "exclusive" car is to build a one off. No production car is exclusive. Plus, when they get really low numbers don't the owners typically gather in groups anyway?

But even this is subjective. To someone that thinks an Ariel Atom is perfect, the new Supra is oversized and overweight. Heck I consider it overweight by almost 1,000 lbs compared to my idea of a perfect two seater ('85 MR2).

I always go back to the "car" enthusiast vs "driving" enthusiast. A driving enthusiast would drive a car with faded paint as long as it is fun to drive at the limit. These people could care less if there are tons on the road. A car enthusiast wants the car with the best specs on paper and wants to be the only one that has owns car. The Twins seem to attract driving enthusiasts, something tells me this Supra will attract more car enthusiasts than driving enthusiasts.

Word. Basically what it comes down to is experience and preference. I started on a 636 bike, will eventually get a busa just to see what it's like for a while. I started with a heavier v8 car and so I learned around something with way too much power and way too little brakes and tire. I guess I'm more lenient with what I prioritize so long as it drives well to me.

Tire size, I doubt those are readily available locally, a 245 / 275 staggered would probably and will probably be a "better" fit. Definitely not the most common sizing.

I had a 4th gen ss slp Camaro. I didnt really like it. 6th gen feels like a smaller car when I drove it. Obviously leaps and bounds in development have been made since 2001 - 02, but... I almost despised the way that Camaro felt, lol.

As far as exclusivity and marquee, all depends I guess. I always wave and respect other enthusiasts, bit definitely have enjoyed driving fairly rare cars or top tier versions of what's available.

The video that was released was probably the opening video before smoke rises and the car comes out. “We shot a video for you all... maybe you have seen this one already?”

For what it's going to cost, this car is a flop.

You can engine swap an 86 and have a lighter, lower, more balanced, and more powerful car, for cheaper, a lot cheaper.

I'm not a fan of the boxer in our car either, but at least it was a natural fit, but I'm starting to notice the glaring trend; Toyota doesn't want to build their own engines, which is ironic because Toyota's reputation of reliability and performance stems from the amazing engines they used to build in the 80s and 90s. The 86 should've had a Toyota engine and so should the Supra. I'm losing respect for Toyota as a brand every year, they even pulled their cars out of video games because "driving games are too realistic and people won't buy our cars if they can race them in a game" or some bullshit like that.
