I might be going a little too deep with this but...here's my story...
Being a product of the 90's I remember watching toonami at my friend's house (didn't have cable at home ) and getting bootleg VHS copies of the original Dragonball, Shinchan, Doraemon, Gundam Wing and my favorite childhood movie of all time, My Neighbor Totoro! Outside of that I didn't have much access to anime besides Pokemon and Digimon which I watched religiously and consequently gave me a reason to wake up early on a Saturday morning.Once I got into highschool I kind of forgot about anime because girls got boobz. Very distracting. I got back into anime about 5 years ago when my little brother and I decided to watch the Dragonball series from beginning to end. I saw this as a good bonding experience for us since we are 9 years apart and because I never really watched DBZ except for a few random episodes here and there AND I wanted to know what the whole OVER 9000!!! thing was about. Watching 153 episodes of Dragonball and 291 episodes of DBZ in 2 weeks was accomplished effortlessly with many late nights but somehow the 63 episodes of GT felt like it was OVER 9000 YEARS!!! *Side note: who is excited about this... ![]() From that point on I vowed to find more thought provoking series with strong character development and rich story lines. I turned to my childhood favorites for inspiration I watched a ton of Miyazaki films (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Nausicaa, Howl's Moving Castle being my favorites) and re-watched a series that I didn't quite understand at the time, Gundam Wing. Re-watching Gundam Wing made a lot more sense this time around, especially during the economic crisis and bailout fiasco. I started to make real world connections with concepts of political strife, greed, manipulation and deception in the show AND the oddly similar name of the secret Romefella (Rockefeller?!) Foundation which manipulated governments and world affairs from behind closed doors. This was all too good to be a coincidence! From this I grew a fond appreciation for Gundam and began watching all the other seires and building the model kits (which I also enjoyed doing as a wee lad). My favorite out of these series are Gundam UC, Mobile Suit Gundam, The 08th MS Team, 0083: Stardust Memory, Char's Counterattack, Gundam Zeta and Gundam 00. BTW Gundam funs... episode 6 of Gundam UC is out!!! SOOO GOOD!!! ![]() *If you want to download the HQ720 eng dub click the pic above^^ you're welcome.Another series I really love is Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Rebuild movies 1.11 and 2.22. I haven't seen 3.0 yet but I am eagerly waiting for it to be released on Blu-Ray/DVD! ![]() So Miyazaki, Gundam and Evangelion are my favorite factions of anime but I'm trying to get some other series under my belt! It's hard to find time to watch a series but some of my favorites have been: Steins;Gate Cowboy Bebop FLCL Akira Eden of the East Gurren Lagann Trigun Elfin Lied The Melancholy/Disappearance of Haruhi Suzamiya Claymore Code Geass Summer Wars So there it is, my anime story; I'm no otaku but I'm getting my feet wet!. I know, I know, it was an absolutely thrilling waste of your time but thanks for wasting it on me .Currently I am watching Steins;Gate and Gundam UC ep.6 AGAIN because it's sooo good!!! I also have Clannad, The World only God Knows, Sword Art Online, Fate/Stay Night, Persona 4 and Angel Beats on backlog. Which one should I start first? or other recommendations? (I know there are a few pages of suggestions already but I'd like to keep this conversation alive )

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood Gunslinger Girl Origin: Spirits of the Past Samurai Champloo JETRED, have not seen Clannad, The World only God Knows, Sword Art Online, Fate/Stay Night, or Persona 4. Saw about half of Angel Beats, was okay/mediocre so I just didn't feel like finishing it. Some I'd recommend checking out: Birdy the Mighty: Decode Black Lagoon Broken Blade Full Metal Panic/Fumoffu/FMP: TSR Gunbuster and Diebuster OVA's Gunslinger Girl Puella Magi Madoka Magica Redline best anime Blu-Ray experience I've had... crazy story with awesome hand drawn visuals and reference level mixed Lossless surround audio track. Evangelion 2.22 was the previous Blu-Ray experience title champ with it's visuals and TrueHD 6.1 track combo ... The Skull Man One of my most favorite series is Ergo Proxy, but it is a more psychological anime that requires multiple viewings to get the most out of it... still what I'd consider a masterpiece.

Thank you!The beginning reminded me of Resident Evil with the proxy escaping (assuming that is a proxy). People having these humanoid auto-raves as sidekicks, life companions and even a child can only lead to a brutal upheaval! And why are the people taking orders from Greek statues when they only think of people as mere fodder!! AND now there's two proxies; ying and a yang kind of deal?! I'M HOOKED\GOTTA KEEP WATCHING\NEED ANSWERS!!

If you liked Steins;Gate, you might like the current Robotics;Notes. It's no accident the naming is similar. Storys aren't that similar at begining, but you eventually get into conspiracies and twisted stuff. And the people creating these must have something against CERN....
I bought Redline DVD, I have to say I was kind of dissappointed. Lots of good visuals, but it just seemed lacking in something. The story is really simple, but that in itself isn't necessarily bad. It certainly wasn't terrible, but not anything I'd rank great and will probably languish on my shelf. |

Lol, missed this thread completely xP. I haven't really watched a whole lot of anime yet, i've tried reading some manga but can't do it lol. I've never like reading and manga is about the same to me i just get to bored sitting still trying to read. I liked Deathnote, Code geass, Gundam Wing, and also Inital D. I never really cared for Naruto, i started watching it outta being strictly bored, got caught up on it and its ok not as bad as i thought it would be but not amazing either. I only have about 2 TV show's i watch otherwise its all anime. Got a subscription to Crunchyroll and i usually watch anime on there whenever i'm not driving, playing games, or working lol.
