Replacement tire on order and will be picking it up tonight.

I will say that the car is definitely squirrelly running on the doughnut on the rear. Not undrivable or dangerous but you do have to be careful (as you would expect I suppose).

Also, not sure how those of you that run without the pressure sensors tolerate the idiot light. it is very bright at night, and just in your face. I suppose a piece of electrical tape would fix that!

I run with that light on from November 1st to March 31st. You get used to it after a few days and then when it isn't on you wonder what is wrong for a bit.

How's the car holding up so far Sir, I'm wondering if you've changed the fluids on the AT and the LSD?

Car is holding up great, no real issues. Anything so far has been minor. Just short of the 100,000 mile mark.

As far as the AT and LSD fluids, I pretty much follow the maintenance recommendations so the AT was changed at 60K miles. THE LSD has not been changed yet but I'll have it changed at one of the next couple of service points.

Today is the 5th anniversary of me receiving the fateful email telling me I had been selected for the First 86 Program. Time does fly doesn't it?

It's unfortunate that Scion died for one reason, I had always had in the back of my mind maybe they would do a "First 86" reunion for folks that still owned the car at some point. Obviously, not likely to happen now although I suppose if Toyota ever does a MKII it would be a nice marketing thing for them.

Anyway, car is still doing well. I do now have 2 weeping taillights so I need to get around to changing the gasket. The left one (original weeping one mentioned above) had dried out over the summer. They both fogged up recently during a cold snap here in Atlanta.

I'm still on track to hit 100,000 miles sometime in late February, 2017.

In addition to posting the fuel log in the original post here, I finally got around to importing the information into Fuelly. My plan is to continue to post the fuel information here until I reach the 5th year anniversary then will refer folks to Fuelly from there.

ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!

On the way to a ground breaking ceremony for a new building my company is building today (which means not my regular commute time, which also means if I had blown it off this wouldn't have happened) a lady in a Nissan Sentra decided that she needed to make a left turn between the truck in front of me and me.

Unfortunately, there wasn't nearly enough space, she stopped dead right in the middle of my lane. I slammed the brakes, kicking off ABS and we hit corner to corner at probably less than 5MPH (thankfully). I had no place to go right any further than I did (was about half out of my lane when we impacted).

There was no apparent damage to her car (of course).

The front bumper cover of the 86 is creased, scratched and popped loose right under the left headlight. I also think the impact managed to tweak my hood. (it's slightly raised and the gap doesn't look right, not nearly as close as the passenger side).

I get out and immediately determine 1) English is not her first language 2) its not her car and 3) she won't talk to me but calls her daughter instead. Fair enough. A quick call to 911 and a friendly police officer is soon on the scene. They collect the info from her, but can't give it to me, I have to wait for the police report (my insurance company says it's pretty SOP for them to do that, safety precaution so I don't go ballistic/stalker on her I suppose).

It could have been a lot worse. The lady had her grandkid (probably 18 to 24 months old) in the back seat, in a car seat, right up against the passenger door. Had she kept going, I would have hit her at much more impact and probably right in the kid's door. Doesn't matter who's fault it is, I would NOT want that to happen.

After I took the picture below I bent the slots back enough so they would slide under the top body work.

My insurance is going to give me a damage estimate tomorrow but I have to wait to file with her insurance company to avoid a deductible. no problem, car is perfectly drivable. There goes the "clean" CARFAX though, not that matters.

So, messed up bumper, have to deal with the hassle, and I missed free burgers, sausages and cookies at the groundbreaking!

Well that sucks! Missed free food.

I had the exact same scenario happen to me just before Christmas but I managed to stop about a 1/2 inch before I hit. Afterwards I thought "Shit I should have just tapped her and got a shiny new bumper". I now plan on keeping the car until it falls apart so the Crafax is meaningless to me.

Damn. That sucks. Do you have a dashcam? Wondering how hard insurance has to fight since you hit her from behind from the end result

Yea, I'm the same way on keeping the car so that doesn't bother me either.

If I'd had another 6 to 8 inches it would have been a non-event. Hmmm, if I had a nickel for everytime...agh...never mind.

No dashcam, but sure makes me think about it a little harder.

Don't think it will be much of a fight. She admitted to the cops she pulled in front of me and the officer told me he would be listing me as me on the report as "not at fault".

Thats good. Should be pretty straight forward then.

Yeah, I dont have one either but have really been considering it. Plus a couple guys sin the local forum said good things about a model thats under $100 which is more inticing. All yhe $250+ blackviews and what not kinda pushed it down the priority list

Looks like just a bumper from the picture. (Or maybe the hood too from what you said) but that's not terrible. Hopefully the insurance doesn't **** you around and you get a nice bodykit out of the deal!

Doesn't look too bad now you have an incentive to get new GT86 Style headlights or even Monograms if you want to keep it OEM and JDM Clear Corners or heck even 17+ Front end conversion FTW

UPDATE: Police report already posted online. Other driver got a "failure to yield" ticket, and we both have the same insurance company (USAA) so this should be straight forward.

I still think either the hood or the fender is jacked up some. Guess we'll see when it goes to the shop.

I tucked the tab back under before driving off yesterday, and after the drive home I think it may have actually reattached itself. Definitely a crease in the bumper cover and some pretty deep scratches. (the crease doesn't show in the picture).

I'm hoping the hood is tweaked and has to be replaced because that will save me from having to have it painted to cover up the road rash it has developed over 5 years!
