We're pissed because their being dishonest with us, they have billion dollar expectations for what this platform could mean for both companies, and they they know if the word gets out that they screwed up the launch it could doom this awesome car.

Subaru is aware of these concerns through our processes briefly noted below. We are working to resolve all issues at the dealership and factory levels. This work, as you can imagine, is ongoing and not reserved to BRZ vehicles.
That's an interesting sentence, is it generic or are they admitting to the problem with the FR-S/GT 86 as well?

Hey guys I just picked up an FR-S and I am in the 9000 vin number...has anyone reported problems in this number range yet ? I am wondering if I got a car from like a 2nd wave from the factory?? I only have 400 miles on her right now and no problems so far.

EDIT - Just saw alienate is in the 9000 vin number range . I hope I get lucky and have no problems. I really feel bad for everyone else experiencing this.

Quick question - I am by no means an expert on any of this but it seems weird to me that every car does not have this problem since it is an ECU problem now (they are saying)? Don't we all have same ECU version installed in the cars??? Seems something more mechanical to me.

The sensor is held in place by screws, but the cable is just clipped in. You were messing with the airbox so that was just a possibility. It looks to be in there pretty tightly.

I believe this was/is a problem on the FB20 as well, the engine found in the base 2012 Impreza.

Do you have any more details on the re-flash? TSB number? What CEL code were you getting?

Hey guys, just to make you guys feel better or worse.... I've been doing a lot of reading the past hour or so on 2 Japanese 86 forums, actually registered to one out of boredom. In Japan, guys are experiencing the same problem it's probably not going to seem as wide spread over there as it is here in America and other countries as the culture is different and the amount patience there is far greater then the majority of people in the world.

But to the point... Guys having the same erratic idle, check engine lights, some are reporting detonation/engine knock in the low rpm range during load(2000-2500rpm range). Engineers are dishing out the same fixes as they are here in America mainly cam gear/cam shaft, and ecu fixes.

Here's a thread immediately off of the recent post section of a JP forum: http://toyota-86.jp/86society/Lounge...d_id/3876.html

If you guys care to hear anything else interesting I may follow up in the morning(US time zones) as it's already Sunday afternoon in the motherland(Japan) so the forum should be at it's highest point of activity in a few hours before people go out for Sunday evening gatherings/races.

What the? Any more info? What CEL did you have? Did they say anything about the flash/ecu at all to you?

@OmarGC I mailed a complaint to Toyota Japan, not sure if they understand my English but you never know. Do you have a link you can post to Japanese GT86 forums? Been trying to find some

Well i do agree that it seems strange to just be ECU related. But then again modern cars use the ECU for everything and one simple error or bug can cause alot of problems.
I do think it's possible that the ECU have diffrent software in it depending on when the ECU was programmed.
The ECU is probably installed with software at some place then shipped to the assembly line and installed to the car.

Maybe some crazy engineer decided to add a bug to the software which uses some random command to produce CELs at a random point (since people are seeing CEL at totally random miles and VIN nr)? The plot thickens!

Toyota isn't going to admit to anybody that there's an ongoing issue, and you can bet their staff are being told not to acknowledge the issue as wide spread.

Anytime I bring up the fact that this issue is wide-spread with my Scion rep she immediately parrots the line "Sorry, but we only evaluate these issues on a case by case basis" as if she's been instructed to say that exact line when customers talk about other people experiencing the same problem.

Okay. But isn't this contradictory to the experience many are having with the HPFP problem, which Toyota seems to be addressing in a conscientious and forthright manner?
