Was literally gonna head out my door to pick up the red MT in Santa Rosa, but someone beat me to it.

Gonna keep looking for a red MT.

Pretty much, if this dealer jerks me around I'll either end up with vintage 911 or a beater RX7.

Anyone who pays more than MSRP is an idiot or they have so much extra cash they should give me some!

I don't really appreciate being called an idiot.

Well it's nothing personal, but I wouldn't go to McDonald's and pay more than what they normally charge for a cheeseburger. Why would I go to Scion and pay more than they charge for a car?

If you have a bunch of cash and nothing else to spend it on why not I guess.

Where did you buy your car if you don't mind me asking? I haven't seen many AT FR-S with mark-ups.

There is still an Argento manual at Yuba City Scion. Been there at least a month.

Does it have "dealer installed" options?

Piercey, marked up with the standard dealer stuff and leather seats.

With McDonald's, it's a bit different. There are many substitutes for a cheeseburger - if they mark it up, I could just go to In-N-Out, Burger King, Carl's Jr, etc. To me, it's much more different with cars. Sure, I could have spent less money and gotten a Miata or Genesis, but neither of those is the FR-S. I also could have spent less money and gotten a BR-Z, but that would have been pure mark-up with nothing in return. I definitely also could have waited several more months (I've been waiting since May) and eventually gotten a stock one.

It's all about opportunity cost. None of those options were particularly appealing to me given that the additional price of buying the FR-S on the spot didn't push the car out of the budget I had set when going on my new car search. It also helped that an Asphalt AT is the exact color and transmission I had been wanting since the beginning (passed up 3 or 4 Firestorm ones in the waiting cycle). And the markup price? There's plenty of other places I can save money - sure, maybe instant ramen isn't the greatest, but driving the FR-S to the grocery store to pick it up now sure is.

I don't feel that it's fair to label everyone willing to pay over stock MSRP as uber-rich or mentally challenged. For a purchase as large as a new car, most people probably put some thought into balancing out their happiness vs what they're paying, and reached a decision they're comfortable with.

Exactly McDonald's marked up the cheeseburger and you don't like BK, In-n-out (Genesis, Miata) so you paid the marked up McDonald's price.

I didn't actaully mean to call anyone names... I call lot's of people idiot's (including myself). It's really not personal, trust me! IMO we are all idiots for one thing or the next.

Ah, I phrased that poorly. What I was implying was that a cheeseburger doesn't have very much differentiation whereas a substitute for a particular car doesn't give the same sense of satisfaction that a cheeseburger from a rival chain might.

Well, some people might treat cars interchangeably, but I think we're all on this board because we think the FR-S/BRZ is something special.

I can understand why dealers add on all the extra junk also - the car is rare enough right now that it's guaranteed to be sold (even the 38K one, apparently!). They might as well try to make as much money as possible off of it. That's just business.
