Well sh!t... bumper was a bit more expensive than I've expected. I need to save up a bit & try again.

Ugh, this is what happens when owning the house? Can't spent 100% of my paycheck into car parts anymore. Need money to remodel the house PLUS all other stuff.

Hence the term ....."house poor" .......

Then, just as you save up a bit more for the car part ....... the price will increase.

Then, when you save up some more ...... the dishwasher, washing machine or hot water heater will go out.

Then ...........

Oh god... don't jinx it. We rarely use dishwasher, but all the kitchen appliances are hella old. Like stove might be older than me lol

Washer & Dryer should be good. We bought it last yr. Water heater is new as well (replaced last yr).

Ugh I don't wanna think bout all the stuff could go wrong.

Oh, OK.

Old stoves will last forever ...... if electric, a burner may go out (easily and economically replaced). If gas, new jets or valves are cheap and easy. Old refrigerators last even longer ....... just don't move them.

Now, the furnace is another thing. So, if it goes out, you can either replace it and fix your bumper with some pop rivets, bondo and a rattle can ....OR ...buy that new bumper and ....just bundle up ... your call....

If I tell that to my wife, she'll kill me.

I've decided not to buy those front bumper... at least I save up a bit more. I need to buy other car parts for this season's race/autox.

Better than the progression I have experienced:

fill cavity (age 20) > filling falls out, refill it (age 40) > 2d filling falls apart, get root canal and crown (age 50) > remainder of tooth disintegrates, pull it out (age 60) > dentist wants to do an implant (age 70) > me ..... no thanks, I'll just chew on the other side and learn to live with the space there.

Now, THAT should be an easier sell to your wife ...... after all, it is your pastime/hobby/sport ......

Besides, that would save you not only the added expense of a custom bumper but, the possible aggravations ..... it got messed up in shipment .... the paint doesn't match worth a shit ..... damn gap between the bumper and fender .... and the worst one ....... CRUNCH .....SHIT ....... as you forgot and pulled into a certain driveway ......

See ...... wife knows best ......

Do it. You'll be glad you have already planned for it when it happens.

There's a reason that I wound up about $90k in the hole on our last house according to the IRS paperwork. On the other hand, all-in our costs were roughly equivalent to renting a similar place.

Cost is all about perspective.

Even my new BRZ I can talk the actual out-of-pocket replacement loss down to about $10k (since I was not driving, I'm not absorbing the full amount)... though that includes ignoring all the labor (thank goodness I do most of my own work?). Realistically? It was an expensive loss all around.

It's only money...
