You got lucky. Another way to have update it (fix it) was to spend $$ upgrading it. Dealerships are to follow Toyota protocols on when/who gets the update...they *can't* do it prematurely.

I hear ya man, getting the ECU update takes forever. Almost the exact same thing happened to me last year, except I asked for the update (was not tagged as "recall") back when people were getting the DI seal issue. They thought it would be quick, so I opted to wait... service mechanic finally came out to tell me it was taking "longer than they thought" 3 hours later...
