I was browsing an older thread and saw what I was originally willing to pay...

Limited MT: $27,495 + $750 destination = $28,245 Ehh... 245 more than what I was willing to pay. Damn Subaru knows how to milk me for my money. Here's the original thread if anyone wants to see what they posted just for fun: Potential owner questionnaire

Yeah, that's something else people haven't really been mentioning. It's not like you get to choose the oil they use when you're taking your car in to get a free oil change.

So like, not really sure how it works everywhere but I'm pretty sure where I live you can't get HID's in your vehicle unless it comes that way from the factory.
Seems to different between factory, aftermarket, retrofit, etc. for some. All I know is that I'll probably be ratting out FR-S owners who put in aftermarket HID's if they are illegal because I hate, hate, hate being blinded by poorly installed HID's because people think they are the coolest thing in the world but are too cheap to get a car that has them. |

A direct competitor in that price bracket is a familiar RWD Z coupe Nissan 370Z MSRP $31,910 + $780 dest. If Subaru really is going to come out with a STI, it's better to not half ass it and keep to the whole pure weight reduction plan. I don't get the whole resistance of adding FI to this car. Toyota claims that it will change the "fun" factor of this car. The whole point is to provide the best platform for modification and Toyota's statement contradicts that. They just don't want to jack up the price or sabotage their 1st gen sales. The original STI weight reduction - Jenny Craig taibo isn't very effective at such a high price point. They better pack some more power under that hood to throw out some Bruce Lee lee punches. Despite me wanting to keep this car NA... If the STI is 2600 lbs and turbo charged to 300 HP with a Nissan Z rwd coupe MSRP , I think it will annihilate everything on the market. At near 30K it's really hard ..not to look at the HP numbers. I just blame Toyota. Their pricing for the FRS is just too damn high and pushes everything up. Subaru is trapped as they know they can't push this beyond the WRX price and they can't go lower than the FRS. Last edited by Stigmaru; 04-06-2012 at 05:47 AM. |

Now that I know the pricing for all the trims, here is what crosses my mind:
1. Don't like the Scion Badge. Sure, snobby, but it may affect resell value and insurance rates based on what I'm reading here. 2. Don't like the Scion FRS small touches anyway, don't like the red flares on the seats, the non brushed silver dash, the white tach, the low end cloth seats, the no red stitching on the handbrake, and the front bumper looks like it was an afterthought, does not match the rest of the car. No WR Blue Pearl option. 3. I don't need or want a Subaru Nav. Awesomely I have to pay for one. My Tom Tom iPhone app has HD traffic with Google access and Cell Phone towers. Why would I even want to use a Subaru wanna be? And I can get that Tom Tom voice to talk to Siri, so that's loads of amusement when Siri tries to search for "turn left on Cottman St" 4. I do like Bluetooth and iPhone USB. 5. I do like premium headlights, nothing worse than not seeing where you are going. Don't know if I need HIDs, never had them, but I've had weak ass headlights and that blows. HIDs seem to be top dog. Everyone wants the BRZ headlights anyway. 6. I do like the BRZ Limited L&A seats. Heated seats is a must, warms you before the heat warms up. 7. I love the push button start. Was always like "How cool is it that the Honda S2000 has a push button start man?!" and what is this "Smart Key Answer-back electronic chirp?" does that mean the keys will beep if I lose them in the house? If so, awesome. 8. I could take or leave the Fog Lights, the Spoiler, the Heated Side Mirrors. Whatever. I would not pay for them separately though. Same with auto climate control, not sure if better, but I like the digital gauges better. The idea of setting a temp and leaving it there seems great, but not if I lose fine control of the air temp blowing out. I'm very sensitive to temps. 9. Daytime running lights are good for lowering my insurance, and the BRZs LED strip ones look cool. 10. I like trunk trays, so I will buy one if the BRZ lacks one. Perhaps All Weather Mats too as I keep wearing out the cloth ones fast. 11. I like the adjustable Shift indicator beep and lights, is that a BRZ exclusive? And I love love love the WR Blue Pearl color, that alone is worth stepping up to the BRZ Premium. 12. Not sure if I want an auto dimming mirror or bottom dash lighting kits, but they sound cool. No subwoofer for me, I'll be upgrading all those speakers thank you very much. No factory audio will do. That said, I do value decent sound until that upgrade happens 3-7 years from now. Have to pay off the car first. 13. Is the limited slip a mechanical one? If so, is that better and Why? Do all three trims have the same one? Even the FRS? Before I knew the pricing, I ordered in a BRZ Limited, I'm 6th out of 7 slots from my dealer. I want that trim, but I am worried that I will not have the ability to afford it. All I can say is I hope it comes in as late as possible, like after Nov. I'm saving like 1000 a month or more for this car, but it is looking like I only want to borrow 23K tops for payment reasons. Kinda want it to be under $400 a month with gap insurance. I wonder if the dealer would hold it for me for 1-4 months if I kept sending that 1K a month to him, so I could get that payment a bit lower. I might of been better off ordering the Premium money wise. Can I even switch to the Premium? Then again, the Heated L&A seats, Push Button Start, and possibly useful heated side mirrors are worth 2k to me if I can get the money. I really want those features, but the other Limited features are not really interesting, but do add in a bonus kinda way. I could be happy enough with the Premium, but I would hate to step down to the FRS. Since I have no idea when it will come in, I can't say which I want right now. If I have the money by Nov, I'd pay for the Limited, if I didn't I may have to give up my Limited and re-order another one or find a Premium. Not to mention that I was promised MSRP on the Limited. A good price mark up on a Premium would make the Limited a no brainer. Last edited by NeoDiNardo; 04-06-2012 at 06:54 AM. |

AeroWRX Yea, I think 27k is at the point where it's not something a person strapped for cash is looking at, so people looking at it are going to be able to make the jump to a 370Z.
An STI version would be right in Z territory. Considering how the S2000 managed to sorta sell, they could probably get away with a slightly slower car that costs slightly more. I think forced induction actually makes quite a bit of sense. A good ole' supercharger is great because it doesn't build boost if you don't need it, and theoretically doesn't hurt fuel economy at all, although when you get in boost, as usual, efficiency plummets. Personally, I think the redline needs to go up first, because more revs is just awesome, and then boost but not to the point where you have to drop compression ratio. Preferably a next-next-gen electric supercharger (I suppose belt driven centrifugal is fine too if it's cheaper) with generator turbine, and the rest of the electronic goodies that need to be there to make it work such as a mild hybrid system

I just wish the Premium had heated seats with one of the best wearing cloth materials. That would convince me to forgo the Limited. I still might get a Premium instead. I just feel that any car over 25K should have heated seats with premium cloth material.
Which seat material between the Premium and the Limited will wear better, for those who have felt up both? Or should I just buy the Premium and fancy aftermarket seats later like, even more sporty than the standard ones? I might see if I can downgrade my pre order to a Premium. Not sure if the Limited is for me. And while I could stretch for a Limited BRZ, I can't stretch for a Nissan Z. Every thousand or even every hundred counts when stretching. The trunk tray is an option listed for $75. The auto dimming mirror is an option too ($205 w/ Compass or $281 w/ Compass and Homelink).
The LSD on all trims is mechanical. Torsen. I doubt you can just change from Limited to Premium. You would be giving up your 7th spot in line to put yourself at the back of the queue for Premiums if they aren't already filled up. If I was you I would save what you could between now and when the car comes in and if you don't have enough, explain the situation and see if there's some compromise you and the dealer can come to. |
