Oh definitely, once Saturday hits on a sunny day I'm either heading to Tail of the Dragon or C&C. I love my little 86. I'd rather the R8 be down. Honestly.

We can trade my BRZ for your R8

My BRZ is also a June car (picked up on June 30th). Haven't had the issue yet, knock on wood.

Definitely seeming like the earlier build dates are more prone to this DI seal issue.

I've never had a reflash that I know of from servicing the car at my schedule dates for maintenance. And this being a reason why I opted to go when recommended to not have them say, its my fault for not bringing in for regular maintenance. Yada yada.

Seriously? Have you owned and tracked an Evo X? There's a reason I got rid of mine. SST overheat, coolant overheat, and fuel surge are just some of the reasons the car was not up to track use.

That's completely aside from the large number of people who have broken them on the track and then been told that they had no warranty because they were operating the vehicle outside of design intentions. This isn't anything new, and Mitsubishi isn't the company to look to as an example of good warranty service.

Hell, when my Eclipse had a ball joint fail (something that they had a RECALL for) they immediately started asking questions about modifications...

Yes, I have one. I know the SST does tend to overheat but it overheats in almost every car with a dual clutch transmission under hard use. I haven't heard about the coolant overheating though. And isn't fuel surge only a problem with modified higher power/boosted cars?

But still overall, I haven't had any problems with it other than my battery dying prematurely which they upgraded me to an Optima AGM under warranty. And I drive it pretty hard. I also know a few other guys who track them all the time with minimal mods who haven't had any problems either.

But who knows... I guess some guys just have bad luck with their cars and with the manufacturer/dealers while others have no problem.

My Evo's SST would also overheat but I think a manual would be fine.

That bulletin really scares me.

SST overheat, engine overheat, and surge can occur even stock. I've seen it happen. Modifications certainly lower the threshold. While certainly driver and track configuration dependent, these are issues even in stock form on the Evo X. Fuel surge happens in stock form on a sweeping, high speed, WOT left hander. Turn 8 at Thunderhill will get you everytime if you are less than 1/2 tank, stock.

Hmm, fair enough. I guess my statement was a little too generalized and based off my own and local experience. We've owned 3 Mitsubishis, driven them all very hard and have had virtually no problems. And having worked at the dealer, we generally took care of everyone regardless of track use. But obviously your experience may vary. I suppose driving any car flat out repeatedly is bound to produce problems of some sort. And I know a lot of the Mitsubishi guys like to modify their cars to hell. Oh well, sorry for making such a blanket statement.

Mitsubishi voided my warranty when they found a time slip in my glove box..
It wasn't even for that car! They completed the repair which was for a bad synchro which I reported when the car was new.. And told me no more warranty.. I didn't care really since it was for the track.. But this was before mods.. After several center diff failures, turbo seals, balance shaft issues, tappets, etc.. I dumped that POS and stepped up to some American iron.. Spent 25+ years modifying camaros and vettes with no issues from chevrolet even with mods.. I put high HP cars behind me now.. Trying to settle into something more friendly in the real world.. Also trying not to mod.. Which might be a good idea with this car..

I googled tranisient ignition and this what ive found so far that isnt a text book. Regarding this transient ignition condition that is causing the detonation, I think everyone to should read this thread from start to finish, it's a bit techy but you get the idea.

I read it. All I see is a bunch of people arguing over whether or not this issue really exists and whether or not transient timing maps are necessary in the real world.
